Thanks - If a capacitor passes the rated capacitance, is that confirmation it is good? I have a 35uf +/- 5% reporting 34.6 - However, the motor is still just humming when I turn it on. Could it still be a duff capacitor please?

Sir may I ask, if I have a motor starting capacitor for "Dough Mixer" of 80µF 10+20% 270V, and I have a reading of 85µF, shall I say that the capacitor is in excellent condition?

These videos are frustrating because there's no standard on the numbering format for these capacitors. His clearly lists "MFD" on the label, but I've seen plenty that don't... just the weird upside-down looking 'h' symbol next to a capital "F". Plus the arrangement of markings on his multimeter look nothing like what the multimeters at Harbor Freight have.

Idea: lick it ( see if it tingles like a 9V)

Who ever had the bright idea to abbreviate microFarads as "MFD" should be fired... immediately. 🤦

The letter "M" has ALWAYS been associated with "MEGA" in SI abbreviations.
