I always removed my splinters by ripping out the entire area around the splinter with a sharp tool.

Yeah but what about the small splinters that tweezers can't pull out?

By the time the infection spreads beyond the wound you would be in so much pain, gross inflammation, that ignoring the wound would be impossible. The risk of infection from a simple wood splinter is less than moderate and the body is well able to activate defenses against any microbes. Just use tweezers while pushing the object in the direction it entered the skin. After removal wash the area with soap and water, you will be fine, no antibiotics or band aids are required.

I am careful around splinters, in general, I don’t like to hold wood the only type I like is the one with a glossy cover

Literally 3/4ths of the video is about what happens if a splinter is left in too long

Got a small splinter a few days ago and although i thought i took it out, a little nearly invisible piece stayed behind....didnt realize it till a day later the area became slightly inflamed and still hurt when touched...squeezed it with some small tweezers and the last extremely tiny piece came out and it stopped hurting hours

Meanwhile i still have a silver mark underneath my skin on my palm from the 3rd grade almost 2 decades ago when some kid accidentally stabbed me with a pencil and the piece of lead was never fully any inflammation....

Now i understand why two different reactions occurred.

Rule of thumb; if you can see the splinter, try to remove it

But what if I can't see the splinter?
