Gray Lensman by E E Doc Smith

I have the entire Lensman series, Family D_Alembert series, Skylark Series, Subspace series and Galaxy Primes. While slightly outdated due to what we now know about physics etc the stories are still great. I am 65 yrs old and have 2nd book stores so I could have the entire series sitting in my bookcase. Due to the pandemic I have taken great joy in re-reading the Galaxy Primes, Subspace Explorers, Lensman Series and Skylark series. I plan to do the same Family D_Alembert series next. E.E. Doc Smith is one of my favorite authors. If you like good stories try Elizabeth Moon ( Serrano Legacy and Vatta's War) and Lois McMaster Bujold (Vorkosigan Seiies) They are well worth the read.

Glad to find this on YouTube, I have it on Kindle but it's nice to also be able to listen to a good story on a long drive... And I've finally decided to make my way through one of the pillars of Space Opera with the Lensmen series. So far, I am not at all disappointed.

I Soo love E E DOC SMITH . Especially this story. Lol. WILD BILL . Yip yip yipeeee here’s my guns. Lol. Proper Wild West style. In a universe that’s like Western America circa 1840 lol. But supposedly 2540 lol. Excellent. Can’t beat Doc Smith. Giant space opera. 😀😇

I first read the Lensman series when I was 17. I'm 61 now and still find myself reaching for one of the books for a good read.

Love these stories and have re read the whole series many times.
I've just realized that this one time, our Lensman did not save or reward animals he used. In the last chapter of Galactic Patrol Kim used dogs to release the men's shields. In this chapter, those dogs would have died when the planet blew up. While in other parts of the story it is mentioned that Kim very carefully rewarded creatures he used. Here, though, not only did he not reward the dogs, they all died!

I first saw the animated movie and then started reading a couple of the books. I am now enjoying this audiobook.

I was unaware how influential these novels were. Star Wars and The Green Lantern were directly inspired by the lensman series. The first time I heard about it was when I watched the Japanese anime cartoon 'Lensman, Secret of the Lens'. Awesome...

I chanced upon one of the lensman books at a local lib. when I was a kid and I had to get them all and read though them. E.E. Smith had a great imagination for his time. Though most of current humanity if we got shoved into that reality would be thrown into their death booths it is still a series that I hope many future people will read/hear and enjoy it.

I love to relax with an Audio Book and EE.Doc Smith Books are among my favorites..Have any of you discovered the Skylark of Valeron series? Well not quite as entertaining as the Lensmen they are still pretty enjoyable. One poster remarks the “Lensmen” series in the right hands would have made a great movie series to rival Star Trek & Starwars. George Lucas, JJ Adams or Stephen Spielberg. with some serious dialogue editing, a carefully chosen cast and a decent budget I think would have been Big Box Office. What Stars living or dead from today or yesterday would you have cast..and which parts.?
