Really enjoyed your conversational summary of the Lensman series, one of my personal favorites too (which I read for the first time in the early 70’s). The 3 “continuing adventures” novels in the series that I have (written by David A. Kyle and published by Red Jacket Press with cover art by Ron Miller) - Lensman from Rigel, Z Lensman, and The Dragon Lensman - are classics in their own right as well.

Loved these books when I found them in the 2nd hand book shop in the 70's when I was a teen. Fantastic yarns totally over the top space opera indeed.

Very nice tribute to the man who is basically the father of the “space opera” sub-genre as you intoned, Gary. In the annals of the Golden Age of SF, many agree that “Three Novas” defined the field: E.E. “Doc” Smith, Stanley G. Weinbaum (a firm favorite of mine) and Robert A. Heinlein. Smith was first. Even when I saw “Star Wars” on initial viewing clear back in 1977, I recall thinking that Lucas’ film owed a huge debt to Smith and his “Skylark of Space” series.

Viewers may find it interesting that the “Doc” moniker was not just a playful nickname—he held a PhD in Chemical Engineering and was considered both a high explosives expert and a notable food engineer (!)

Loved this video! My dad used to read me Lensman when I was a kid. I remember we saw the Japanese anime of it on TV one summer, which was pretty cool. Years later it inspired a little comic I created, which was later turned into a video game called, "Planetary War Chronicles Armament of Volition." I'm currently in the process of remaking it.

Subscribed. And I can personally recomend Gary's Paperback Parade #88. A GREAT celebration of Doc and his works. By Klono, I'd buy it again if it were available in hardcover! GREAT STUFF, Gary!

Great Stuff 50 years ago as a young teenager I read the Lensman series and have read it 4 times in my lifetime now 66. Also have the Skylark and D'Alembert books + Spacehounds of IPC..The Galaxy Primes and Subspace Explorers... ready to let them all go now as in fairly average condition. Always loved E.E. Doc Smith. and yes agree Masters of the Vortex is my least favourite as just does not seem to fit in with the rest of Lensman series

I feel like you should have more subs. Maybe wear a shirt and improve on the lighting and background.
