All my family and extended family have moved away from Hawaii. It was becoming just too hard to survive let alone thrive. Companies and even hospitals pay a fraction of what you would be paid on the mainland and when every little crappy house is a million dollars and the cost of food is ridiculous, it makes it near impossible to live in your home country. None of us have moved back, it breaks my heart.

I thought you guys were going to explain WHY we're getting pushed out and call out our government for letting the rich push us out.

I am a kanaka from Maui with a solid 10 year career in IT. Even with my experience and skills, my job doesn't pay enough to survive. I always think about leaving home.

To reporter ADAM YAMAGUCHI: I DARE YOU TO REPORT THE TRUTH that the Kamehameha Schools ("KS") has assets worth over $15 BILLION US DOLLARS, and that KS is the largest private landowner in Hawaii, with 363, 852 acres of LAND (see 2022 Annual Report), which is more than ALL Hawaiian Homelands acres combined. Report that ONLY DNA Hawaiians attend KS, and ONLY DNA Hawaiians can lease an acre of Hawaiian Homelands for 99 years for $1 per year. And how many DNA Hawaiian millionaires are there now?

A person's cultural beliefs goes where they go, but it becomes harder to live those beliefs in an "alien" landscape. I have a Finnish ancestry, and where I live now is very similar to Finland. So, living a Finnish lifestyle becomes easier. Fishing, forests, lakes and saunas here are good, and Finnish food and clothes can be imported.

This is happening worldwide, people being priced out of their cities and towns.

But it seems like a good education and obtaining a well paid job is not even enough.

My parents were immigrants from Europe and one of the things they did was partner with other family members, uncles, cousins, etcetera, and bought a home together. Paid it off. Sold it, and that’s how they each were slowly getting their own homes and building equity. I feel we are headed again to those times

I go to Vegas every year, and what people tell me who live in Vegas is that it's not as cheap as it used to be. I have classmates living in Vegas who are struggling.
