Born and raised on Oahu - left at 18 to Las Vegas. Now I live in RENO. It's cool here, but nothing like home. Peter - you're making a real difference showing how things really are everywhere.

It’s not just that Hawaii is so expensive that people have to move, what he’s saying is that the real problem is that the native people of Hawaii are basically being driven off of their land because of the high prices. It’s like a modern day trail of tears. ❤

Been living on Maui since 2015. Been broke for 9 years economically, but extremely rich spiritually. I'm happy here. Thank you for this video

The rich live where they want; the poor live where they can.

I'm 51 years old, born and raised in Hawaii. We are planning on moving at the end of the year. We will be on a fixed income and will no longer be able to afford living here😢 mahalo Peter for daring enough to learn and share about the real issues of the native people🫶

I'm Kanaka Maoli, from Maui. My family lost our native land in the 90's and had to move to the mainland where my mother is from. We always wanted to move back home but the prices keep rising.
I hope one day to reclaim a place in my homeland. 🌴
Mahalo nui for caring to make this segment for Hawaii. Much love to you!

I lived on Kauai for years and what I loved about it was the Ohana and the locals who lived rich and proud in their Hawaiian culture. This IS Hawaii. With the cost of living pushing them out, It will no longer embody what those islands mean. A house is just a house until you fill it up with people you love, then it's a home.

dude the hawaiian accent is so cool! it fascinates me hearing the unique sound of the english they speak out there, and how much it has diverged from other american dialects when combined with local languages.

Twenty year Oahu transplant, every year I get to live here is a huge blessing. The people, the weather, the vibe, the outdoors - NOWHERE on earth beats it.

Hawaii had a Queen and was a sovereign kingdom. It should have never been annexed or "taken by force" by America in 1893. America tried to annex the Philippines in 1899 and the Filipinos fought back. 20, 000 Pinoys dead but they stopped America from doing to them what America did to Hawaii and the native Americans on the mainland. Hawaiians chose peace to save lives but they lost everything in the process.

All the locals I met worked 3 jobs on average.
They said it was the price to live in paradise 🤙

Breaks my heart seeing the struggles they are in but find it so inspirational at their drive to fight back.

Peter, you were part of the Cali-NY covid influx that drove us out of our beloved Florida home. People from expensive housing out of state housing areas and remote workers making Silicon Valley & NYC salaries flooded in. They were already making good money, but they decided to come to Florida to stretch their ample salaries even more and to ride out the pandemic in sunshine and style. They didn't give two hoots what their influx would do to local housing for hospitality workers. Transplants did stuff like seeing an apartment online and offering $600/month more than the advertised price . For houses, they'd offer to pay cash and $200K more than asking price. Do a series on us Peter!

I love this series. My wife LOVES Hawaii. If not for kids she would live there. I enjoyed it but could not live there. When on Maui we had an interesting exchange with a Hawaiian. He said my wife was welcome to move and live in Hawaii, he said I would take some "work". Our trip included staying in a village in upper Maui and on the beach. No resort. utilizing the local markets and shops. Peter, you are right, every beautiful place in the world is in the same situation as Hawaii. We found people in Hawaii that said yes, move here. We found people who said thanks for visiting but don't ever think of moving here, you are not welcome to move here. This series verifies for me the situation and culture of that dual mentality. Thanks for your creative content Peter.

Congrats on the soon to be 3m subs! The diversity of your hosts throughout this Hawaii series have been really eye opening as a viewer getting to come along for the adventures! Thanks for taking us along, these human stories are one of the few things that bring people together in today’s sociopolitical landscape. Blessings!

50 years living on Oahu, and Maui. Hawaii is in my Blood. I’m now living in the Philippines, which is like Hawaii in the years past in some sense. Beautiful people, tropical islands, Philippine Aloha happy people, plenty of different kinds of fruit, Year long Mango season. Plenty fish, avocados, papayas, passion fruit, almost all the same tropical fruit, Bananas, local watermelon, land at reasonable prices. So I can’t afford Hawaii but The Philippines is a close second. Not to mention the beautiful beaches and Women.
