Cold water immersion (also known as ice bathing) is an excellent way to decrease inflammation, promote recovery from intense workouts, manage stress, improve resiliency and more. At the same time, it's not easy to convince yourself to jump into a tub full of freezing-cold water. In this video, I'll share my six top tips for surviving your first ice bath. Implement them and you might just learn to love (or at least appreciate) this uncomfortable but highly-beneficial practice.

I take ice baths in a product aptly named the Cold Plunge, which you'll see in the video. You can learn more about the Cold Plunge via the links below, but the tips I share in the video are applicable to any type of cold water immersion apparatus.

Great thank you so much that’s helpful. I have been plunging for about a year taking time to go colder and longer I did find that when I plunged in I needed to put my head right under the water first and then bring my head up and then breathe, and the Lord’s prayer laugh out loud.

I’m a first timer at this. I want to do it solely for the health benefits of it. Just put my water in yesterday and it’s at 50 degrees. Thanks for the tips, you’ve really put my mind at ease!!

Great advise- one point though, you Do want to work up to wiggling and waving your hands and feet around. Your body heat will create a sheath of warmth around you that will not give you all the benefits of that specific temperature. Beginners- yes. As you progress, make sure you move a bit.

Watching this while doing a ice bath helps

The answer I’m seeking is: what to do when I get out? Just dry off? Change into sweats? Is a warm shower bad, or some cardio to warm back up? What are the dos and don’ts of next steps getting out of the water? Nobody talks about this!

Im gonna try my first ice bath today. It snowed here in Flagstaff AZ so im filling my tub with snow & cold water. Im gonna fight all temptation not to get in & I'm hopeing to stay in for at least 1min or more. Im doing this for many reasons. 1. Making myself do something i really don't want to do. 2. Supposed health benefits 3. 🇷🇺🕯☦️Russians are Awesome ☦️🕯🇷🇺
