Scientists Reveal How to Survive a Plane Crash

Here’s how to survive a plane crash…

In this study, scientists used high-quality cameras, half a million dollars’ worth of human dummies, and dozens of sensors to test which seats and seating positions offer the most safety. The results were surprising!

First off, the back half of the plane is the safest place to be during a crash. But it’s not just the impact that’s dangerous—high-velocity debris can cause serious harm too. To protect yourself and increase your chances of survival, fasten your seatbelt and tuck your body into a ball, covering your head with your hands. If you have a baby, don’t try to hold them during impact, as it’s nearly impossible to maintain your grip. Additionally, sitting within five seats of an exit row can significantly boost your chances of survival!

Fun Fact, after the crash, researchers also studied how different materials in airplane seats absorb shock, helping them design safer, more crash-resistant seating structures for future aircraft. Check description for more details on the study!

The safest seat is the one in the airport they left

The short answer is: there's no safe seat on a plane, cause every crash that happens doesn't crash in the same way.

My dad was Air Force Search and Rescue and he always bought us seats over the wing. Also wouldn’t let me fly wearing sandals or shoes that could easily slip off if I needed to get out of a plane quickly.

Engineer here. I think airplanes are so amazing and I’ve always marveled at the engineering feat that was accomplished with the passenger plane. But I’m still human and have a small fear of aircraft failure. I have been flying for over 20 years now and I always purchase my seats near the wings. Structurally, those seats are the most stable when it comes to surviving a plane crash. It’s near the planes center of gravity plus you have the landing gear which is extremely strong and other equipment that reinforces that area. Most people are going to perish in a crash due to impact and fire but being seated there gives you the highest chance of survival. The rear is second to that.

A friend told me that she always counts the rows to the closest exits front & back. Smart friend! I do it every time now too.

Turns out Economy class May not be the most luxurious, but it’s the safest.

Respect to the pilots because they willingly know that if something were to happen there is no way to survive and their only job is to make sure everyone else survives😢❤

That’s a First class ticket to heaven.

“Nate I told you not to crash it yet! We’re 20 miles behind the designated crash site!”

Nate: “I didn’t crash it”

You know what the least safe seat is... The pilot seats... Mad respect to all the pilots and everyone else who keeps these planes safe and flying!

Airplane phobic human here. I always sit right beside or behind the wings, middle seat. I’ve done a lot of research on seating and survival rates. That’s the least likely place for the plane to split and if it lands in water you’re closer to the exit. Bonus is the middle seat because you’re cushioned between 2 bodies.

I flew on an.aircraft for the first time in 1979 long haul, UK to USA and have flown thousands of miles since then, never a fearful moment and I thank god for all the safe flights that Ive experienced.❤

I flew for the first time back in June. Literally the most incredible feeling I have ever experienced. You'll never look at clouds the same way once you know what they look like from above.

First class tickets are the most dangerous in a full body loss. Coach has the best chance of survival.

It was for a TV show but the scientists decided it would be a good ideas to do that test while they were filming

Plot twist: Pilot requests the cockpit to be removed from the front 😂😂😂😂

One of my ex’s was a very successful aerospace engineer and told me to never to fly first class for this reason. RIP.

So you mean to tell me the most expensive front row seats (shoutout to business class) are the least safest? Nice! I’m flying cheap forever!
