Everytime I see a notification for this channel I come running, sad this isn't the actuall episode yet

I hope one day I can embark on a similar project focusing on indigenous Brazilian history, it's my area of study on uni and there are hundreds of topics to cover here as well

For most channels, I avoid shorts as they often seem like random bits shoved out the door as sacrifice to the algor.
Not so in this case. This channel has some truly massive videos that can be a lot to process, so I view this short as an impressive distillation of an equally huge part of history. This is how a short should be, an invitation to the viewer to check out the channel' content proper.
Even on its own though, this got me thinking, in particular the destruction and ecological void left by the wanton extermination of almost the entire population of bison.
I wonder what the Plains biome would look like today without such senseless slaughter? Would the environment be radically different or is their role in the natural cycle overstated? I realise these are questions better asked in a biology forum but I will let it stay here. Of course there is no obligation to reply but I welcome discussion

For me being from Wisconsin I think of the Ho-Chunk Nation, Menominee, Oneida, and my personal favorite the Algonquian

This is an excellent video on the Great Plains of North America. The indigenous people of North America are a great people. They lived in small tribal groups and developed many distinct cultures. Most of them were hunter-gatherers. Some had farming and created larger communities. But they never achieved the civilizations of Mexico, Yucatán, Central America, and South America. When they unified into one great force they were able to annihilate an over zealous group of US Cavalrymen (Custer Last Stand). But it was too little too late. European settlers outnumbered and out maneuvered them. The indigenous people of the American continent are a great people and they continue to live in the modern, industrialized world created by democratic Republicanism. There are many lessons to be learned from this great saga.

Yes, plains Indians were plentiful. So we’re the Indians along the Atlantic coast. And as far westerly as you can go. Plus in Canada. They populated North America. Not just the prairies.

It’s so infuriating and heartbreaking what we’ve done to the grasslands of America. Only half of shortgrass prairies, 21% of mixed grass, and 11% of tall grass prairies remain unconverted to agriculture and housing/cities.

An entire history just wiped off the map, whole species pushed to extinction, massive ecosystems completely gone.

I wondered about that. I wanna hear what you have to say about the mud floods and the natives are the survivors

You have to take every bit of Knowledge and history from a YouTube video, but I think this one is trying. Keep giving the good as well as the bad. But I always take history in snippets with a grain of salt. Carry on. Educate people, and if someone disagrees, check out their claims.

Plains people are far from plane,
It's just a shame they'll flown over today by plane.

The native Indians of north America are the exact same as the Irish, African, Spanish and the Europeans in the fact that they all came to this land and were Not Native at first.
