Finland Gives US 15 Military Bases

Finland will open 15 of its military bases to the United States. The Finnish Parliament unanimously approved the Defense Cooperation Agreement between the two countries. This will allow the US to use the bases and bring equipment, supplies, and soldiers to Finland. The US will also be able to create military zones which only Americans will have access to. This creates a framework for a permanent US presence in Finland. It’s a crazy switch up. 2 years ago, Finland was a neutral nation uninterested in working with the US or NATO. But after Putin’s invasion, he’ll now have US forces on his border in several spots. Of course now in Finland but also in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia where the governments are seeking a permanent US presence. They should at least name one of the bases “Fort Putin” out of appreciation.

Reality: A previously neutral Finland joins nato and grants the US 15 new bases meaning the Nato-Russia border has expanded twice in size as well as making St. Petersburg a frontline city in the event of any major conflict.

I wasn't sure if I'd ever see Finland and Sweden join NATO, I also would have never guessed that Ukraine would become such an ally of the US in such a short time. Truly Putin made a huge mistake in the invasion of Ukraine. Even if he gets some land in the end, the bonds he has created are worth more than any land he may take.

It’s so interesting to see how Russia and NATO geopolitically duel with one another.

It’s quite obvious who’s winning that fight, Russia is still fighting a war to annex a portion of Ukraine, meanwhile NATO is doing it the correct way through diplomacy and alliances that are beneficial to all parties involved.

When you think about it in those terms, it’s not a huge surprise most of the former Soviet states have turned their back on the Russians, especially considering all the terrible history of the former USSR.

The crazy part is a couple Patriot missile batteries in the north of Finland would cut Russia's ability to nuke the US in half, a quarter of their nuclear ICBMs are launched from mermansk to the east of Finland, and considering the easiest way to shoot down a nuke is before they're going fast like right when they launch, All of the rest of Russia's nuclear stockpile is at risk from Finland except Siberian sites, which most aren't
