If you are tested negative for BRCA gene, yes you can still get breast cancer because there are certain high risk factors for breast cancer. Apart from the regular risk factors that are increasing on the breast, there are three fixed risk factors. One is being a woman, there is 8% risk of breast cancer, that is any women in her lifetime, there is 8% chance that she will get breast cancer irrespective of whether she is BRCA positive or negative. Second is age group, above 50, there is increased incidence of breast cancer itself. So this risk factor cannot be take out. Also there are certain races where the breast cancer is very common. So even if it is BRCA gene negative, every woman is at risk of breast cancer, there is a mandatory screening protocol that is fixed every year, that is you do everyday self-beast examination, meet a doctor once a year and do an ultrasound of the breast or MRI of the breast or mammography of the breast, whichever is recommended by the doctor or that is recommended n the protocol.
