Nancy's not perfect! A lot of you have asked if she's ever failed a test. This one's for you. ♡ For the shock, skip to time 0:34! For the anger, skip to 1:49. For when you're feeling stuck, skip to 2:11. For the important thing to remember if you've just failed a test, skip to 2:58.

If you've failed a test, you're not alone. You're in good company, because we've all failed at things in our lives. It doesn't mean you're not capable of the math. Failing a math test does not define you or your whole math experience.

Have you ever failed a test? What advice would you give to someone?

I failed math twice in college. MY WHOLE HIGH SCHOOL CAREER I proclaimed how much I hated math. I failed my first math test and my first python test for entrance into my programming bootcamp...that was 6 years ago... I've now been working as a data scientist for 6 years now. so stick with it guys, it gets better.

It turns out the marker couldn't read Nancy's handwriting, because it was all reversed.

I tried to convince my teacher to round my 26% into 96%

I hate it when I turn in a test thinking I got an A and I get a D+

My first semester of college I had to drop out of college algebra and take intermediate algebra instead. Now (4 years later) I'm a few weeks away from graduating with a BS in mathematics. There have been many more failures along the way, but one thing I love about math is that it teaches me patience and perseverance. Anything can be accomplished with discipline and a positive mindset. Thanks for sharing your story!

I got a D on my first calc 3 test while majority of the class got an A. I felt the same way you did. I continued to work my ass off, got 100% on the final and got an A on the class. Moral of the story, don't give up.

Oh boy, it’s my time to shine. In college when I was taking calculus 3, on the first exam I got an whooping 37% and I was the person who got the lowest score. Over the entire semester I worked my ass off and got an overall grade of 82%. But when I got that exam back my head was feeling empty, my ears felt like that they were on fire, and I was ready to drop the course. I owe most of my success to YouTube and various channels such this one, Professor Leonard, PatrickJMT, Michel Van Bizen, and many smaller channels out there. Anything is possible if you truly take the time to learn it.

NANCY!!! I COULD NOT have passed this online math class I had to take for my science degree, college algebra. I failed my freshman year of algebra and barely graduated high school but thank God I passed the WASL by one point. The way you explain these concepts are so easy for me to understand and so simple. Believe it or not, by the end of the quarter I actually was enjoying systems of equations, quadratic functions, and factoring. Never in my life have I felt achievement in this subject. Thank you Thank you Thank you! I will definitely be broadcasting your channel to everyone and anyone I know struggling with math.
Sincerest thanks,
Hannah

My lowest test score was a 43. That failure changed my life! It was in organic chemistry. I was majoring in Biology at the time and was in the pre med program in college. Decided then and there that perhaps being a doctor like my dad was not my destiny. I switched to majoring in physics, something I loved and went on to have an awesome career as an engineer. That failure was the best thing ever for me!

After high school I enlisted in the Marines. THEN I went to college. My chemistry class very quickly woke me up to the realization that I was completely unprepared. I failed the semester. But like Nancy says, it wasn't my forever grade. It wasn't the end of the world. I took the course again, passed it and eventually graduated with a BS. Then I went on to get an MS. You might stumble on your journey, but don't give up. Stay the course. Good luck!

We have two PhD's from MIT and Caltech teaching at my University. They all very candidly admitted that they failed classes and retook them but they all say this..."Look at me now. See...failing a class really doesn't dictate your overall success." To put things in a different perspective, think of it like running a business. You lose money in come investments but you gain in others. Those losses won't necessarily dictate your overall wealth; the average does. In other words, don't dwell on losing, focus on final point on your journey.

She’s got the most wholesome personality, glad I found this channel. She’s taught me a lot more in 20 minutes than my professors had in days

It's really good to hear you open up about this, Nancy. It's easy for viewers to look at an accomplished person like yourself, and assume it all comes without effort and without errors.

I am an Economics major at UTSA, and I have relied on your videos from Freshman to Senior, so hearing this video has really helped me to keep things in perspective. Econ is REALLY tough, so knowing that even someone as intelligent as you had a hard time definitely makes me feel a little less left behind. I graduate in December, and, to be honest, I owe a LOT to you.

Love ya Nancy! You save me through high school courses and still save me through college pre-requisites today. Never forget that you continue to help people just like me to not fail tests and have to pull out the calculator to figure out how the minimum score needed to pass the course :P and I am forever grateful :D

You can’t fail a test if you refuse to be tested.

Failing a test doesn't mean you're incapable. Usually it just means you didn't study/practice enough. It can be hard getting used to spending more time studying as the classes get tougher, but you just gotta do it and there's nothing else to it lol
