Have you ever dialed in a awesome tone, but wanted just a little bit more? Well in this video I share my favorite setting on any Tube Sceamer to capture your tone, push it into the next stage of breakup, and not color your tone at all! This trick works for any Tube Screamer (TS9, TS808, Mini, etc) They all do this and it really shows off why the tube screamer is so famous! What did you think? Let me know down below!

Very useful tip. One note about the tone knob on a TS-9: It isn't neutral at noon. It's neutral at more around 9:00. A lot of people don't know this and say it can be harsh but it's only because they have the tone way up, thinkig it's at unity.

I actually use my tube screamer now ... Great video..I couldn't figure out for the life of me why people loved these pedals until I watched him explain it. Sounds great.

This has been no secret for a few decades...well maybe for new players..

I use the TS9 for my clean tone. It does something nice to it. I set the "drive" to 0, the level to unity and the tone wherever I like best depending on the guitar I'm using.

Glad you posted this! We used them like this “back in the day” and you’re right…it’s the best way to use any tube screamer type pedal. For those who might not have discovered this, great info!

The "problem" with this is that not enough people know that with a TubeScreamer, when the tone stack is set at "noon" (or straight up) it's not "neutral" or "flat"...At "noon" it's ADDING midrange AND high EQ... If you want the EQ to remain the SAME as when the pedal is OFF, you have to turn the tone button ALL the way "down" (to the left)... I had no idea until I started studying the TubeScreamer, but just try it, and you'll see for yourself... Oh, and by the way; Turning the gain all the way down and the level all the way up (ala S.R.V.) is the MOST common way that people set these, I thought anyway, lol...

Great video, thank you! Just got my mini tube screamer today so this will helpful. I like the idea of keeping the tone of my valve amp up but just boosting it.

Ah yes… The very secret setting that 95% of all TS-users ever use. Thanks! 👍

This is great for me as a synth player. I bought a ripped speaker and although cool, there is very little in between on that pedal for a synth. Adding a little push to a synth that already has some filter drive and gritty saw waves without turning it into distortion mud really sounds fantastic!

Tube screamers will always color your tone..

They are far from transparent..

But always offer a usefull mid boost..

I run my screamer the same except I set the tone at 25% on the dial. Its like the TS9 merges with your amplifier. Killer pedal.
