The Best Way to use ROCKSMITH

So this came out a little more educational than I thought it would. Basically, I talk about the fastest way to learn songs with rocksmith, and what tools and techniques work best with rocksmith. IT'S VERY HELPFUL. I'm also really sweaty, so that's fun.

But yeah, I get into the difference between a realtone cable and a microphone. Why you shouldn't torrent rocksmith, and MORE!

Changing the difficulty to 100% instead of the default way the game makes you learn songs is probably the best advice out there for Rocksmith, thanks for that.

I'll leave my review as someone who has been playing guitar for more than 10 years.
When I first picked up Rocksmith I was already experienced at guitar and new my share of musical theory however I'll try to make my review free of that bias.

For starters I would never go right into learn a song if you never played the guitar before, you should familiarize yourself with string names, notes, chord shapes, the tutorial videos in the game and mini games can definitely help with that, but if I were you I would also look for simple songs on ultimate-guitar and play those till you can recognize chord shapes and play them almost instantly.
After you're on that basic level I would go to learn a song and as said in the video play a song you like, completely agree that Dynamic Difficulty is stupid and not useful, no one learns songs like that, just start at lower speed and tweak with the settings of how mistake tolerant the game should be, number of repeats and speed increments.

I definitely never had major note detection problems, so I guess that must be from the pickups you're using, or the cable idk. But regarding this matter, don't focus on hitting every single note as shown, you can definitely make your own version and change a note or two and that won't stop your progress or greatly affect your score.

One thing that's very important is that you won't truly master a song until you're on Master Mode (invisible notes). I find myself forgetting parts often because my mind is too attached to the colored notes and visuals, even if you have 100%.
In this matter tabs surely make your life easier because your mind associates the fret numbers with places on the guitar neck, so you know where to go next. Many times I've played entire Rocksmith songs without ever looking at the neck, which is wrong, you won't memorize the song that way.

One advice you can use Custom DLC (for free) from ignition.customsforge.com, you can download user submitted songs directly to the game folder, if that song hasn't come out as an official paid DLC yet. To be honest don't bother with official DLC in this game, it's way too expensive for what you get, it would be better off if you could access the entire song database on a monthly or yearly subscription (like Just Dance).

To end this on a high note, the game makes wonders for those who want to relief stress with guitar playing, specially if you have a non music related job during the day, arriving home and still having to practice felt like a chore, but this game changed that making it fun.

Because of this video I played my first songs at 100 percent difficulty. After two months of guitar I can now play about 6 songs completely on rocksmith at full speed! You're the man! Thanks for this video!

Tune up with the mini tuner in the pause screen - the big tuner at the start of songs is only useful for getting you in the ballpark of alternative tunings - hit escape/pause and dial it in with the mini tuner.

Don't overlook the bass emulation mode on regular guitar. I regret that I avoided it at first, thinking it would get in the way of learning 'regular' guitar. The bass strings are actually the same as the top four on the guitar and the bass parts are often relatively simple. As such I realise now that it's a great way to ease into the Rocksmith system and is a more relaxing way to get familiar with the fretboard in preparation for the more intense lead guitar path and without that pesky B string to trip you up.

Learn how to check and adjust your electric guitar's intonation by adjusting the bridge. You could pay someone but it's all on youtube. Likewise pickup height (too high is just as bad as too low).
I had a ton of note recognition issues when I started. I bought a new guitar and it was just as bad. Then for a long while I blamed my own poor technique and very nearly gave up. HOWEVER! I learned how to set up my guitar and now both guitars hit the notes and chords I know I'm playing. Even the crappy old guitar. Rocksmith is REALLY fussy about tuning so if your guitar isn't in tune all the way up the neck to 12th fret and beyond then you're in for a world of pain.
I'll sometimes pause and retune in game now when I see notes miss that I'm confident I've hit - that's because I trust the game to work with my guitars now. Setting up my guitars was a lesson I learned from Rocksmith indirectly and was so worth investing time in. I'm certain many people give up on this game in frustration because of poorly setup guitars.

100% difficulty is the way to go, although you can ease it back to 90% or so before the chords start to 'dissolve'. It'll simplify the strumming patterns on some songs if you want to focus on the chord shapes first.

Learn how to calibrate the guitar on Rocksmith, and use a clean tone to tune your guitar. It works better that way.

In 2024, this is still the most useful video on the topic, thanks 💖

As a bass player what helped was playing hardest difficulty on score attack then moving to more complex songs

The new string advise is very important. I had a old set when I first played. Fast forward 2 years and I play the game again but with new strings. It picks up way better.

I feel like I could teach someone with basic chord knowledge how to play knocking on heavens door in a day. Doesn't seem unreasonable to me

To make rocksmith detect notes properly you should go through calibration which will detect notes better on either acoustic/electric or electric guitar/bass.i have no issues with rocksmith detecting acoustic/electric guitar/bass when i go through calibration.

Good tip about setting the song difficulty to 100%. I havfe been finding having to pass each level first frustrating. If you know all the notes you will have to play you can place your hand and fingers in a more optimum position in the first place.

I don't play Rocksmith, but latency issues could be solved by splitting the signal from the guitar out to an external source and listening on that, and turning the guitar volume in the game all the way down.

I did 100% difficulty on some songs and I'm getting a lot better with some songs like Trust.

Hey dude! I bought a Takamine acoustic electric. I tried plugging in my real-tone cable for Rocksmith 2014 (Remastered), but I was getting horrible feedback in the game audio. I noticed your acoustic had a built-in preamp, and was wondering if you experienced the same thing, and if so, how did you remedy it? You’re an inspiration...thanks!

I use the cable to make Rocksmith think I'm using it, but I actually use my amp and play along to Rocksmith in the background. Works a charm because you lose the crappy latency issues and you get to use your own tone.

This is so true. I do feel like it's not bad to drop down to 90% difficulty for some songs. Like you get used to a simplified segment, then add a couple more notes to finalize it. How I've been doing it.

Just got the game definitely gonna do the 100% difficulty slow speed instead of the default that's really useful

tbh when i play rocksmith i play other songs as well for fun since i think it would be boring to just play one song and master it since it kinda takes the fun out of the game for me
