Kids today would have no clue how to live like we did growing up… I am so thankful for being a Gen X. Great times and it made me who I am and I’m proud of myself ❤

I always laugh and say when it’s the end of the world, Gen X is gonna survive better than anybody else just because of the way that we were raised wait a minute I mean just because of the way that we raised ourselves😂😂😂😂

You forgot to mention that damn phone was connected to the wall with a stretchy curled cord. And we'd spend hours attached to it actually "talking" & sometimes having to speak to the other parents first if they answered instead of your friend. That completely freaks the youngins out

GenX born 68. At age 7, I was taught to make breakfast for My Momz, my little brother, and myself so my Momz could get out the door before 6 am to drop my brother off at the sitters and get to work.Stayed home til 7:30 then walked to school. Got home from school at 3:15 Made Ketchup or Miracle whip sandwiches did homework til Momz got home at 4:30. Would not change a thing about how I grew up.

I'm a Boomer born 1961 that had a key. I wasn't alone that distance of time. I got home by three and someone was home by five. I was home by myself in the morning and I came home for lunch to make grilled cheese and soup. I had a list of morning, sometimes lunchtime, and nightly chores for the week. I had a couple friends that would come for dinner a couple nights a week because no one would be home until the weekend.

As the oldest of three I began my baby sitting career at age 9. In 1984 I started kindergarten and walked myself to and from school. I miss the days of listening to the radio for hours in order to make a mixed tape. Walkman’s were the greatest invention ever. Saturday morning cartoons, and cereal in front of the TV. Those were the best days!

So true, every word. My mother can’t understand when I say ‘Who gives a f about what such & such thinks’. I don’t care’. #TeamGenX.

I didn’t have the key because my mom was a housewife but I did return home late, drank from a hose when thirsty and travelled beyond the block I lived in, just because at age 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, etc

Woke up my sibling for school because the alarm clock always failed to wake up my mother.

Hide and go seek started with the boys finding girls but the girls left when it was our turn to find the boys.

Milk with chocolate (Nestle Quik Brand) was our redbull. Chef boyardee was gourmet, ravioli.

👏👏👏👏👏 YES! ABSOLUTELY!
I'm circa '71, and I love how you describe our generation! Accurate!
I mostly raised myself, and then my infant brother, as well. He was born in '82 when I was eleven.
Our single parent mom, was a hard working CNA who worked the nightshift at a nursing home.
From ten years old on, I didn't just go to school. I cooked almost all of our meals. I kept her car running. I did the housework, the yardwork, and then my homework. I washed, and pressed, her nurse's uniforms. I did a lot of the shopping, too. And, I always had a lunch ready for her, when she left for work, at ten o'clock, every night.
I was also the only one there for her, to help see her through her entire pregnancy. My kid brother's father pulled the same sh¡t that my own father did, and ran off with another woman as soon as he found out that our mom was pregnant. Goodbye asshθle! 👋
As a result, at eleven years old, I learned how to take care of a newborn infant, too. By myself, every night, in addition to everything else. As well as eventually teaching him how to walk, how to talk, toilet training, reading & writing, everything.
My story is just one minor example of just exactly WHO we members of "Gen X" really are!
We weren't born here to recieve care, and comfort, and love. We came to PROVIDE care, and comfort, and love!
We are workers! We are doers! We are problem solvers! We are survivors! We are a force of nature! We HAD to be! We had no choices in the matter. Not when you're poor.
We don't enjoy hardship, but damn if we don't know how to deal with it! We are the generation that didn't hide from the storms. We wear the storm as our crown! 🌩👑⚡
All love & light! Peace! 🍻✌
