She lost respect for her husband long before he found out about her infidelity and even before she cheated on him. But what did she expect him to do once he found out. There were only 2 options, forgive her or divorce her. He chose the former probably because it was 8 years ago and he loved her (I assume). But here's the funny part, she only regrets divorcing him because he's moved on with someone else.

People are sooo lost in relationships with eachother. I went through a divorce with the same story. Problem is by the time they realize what they did instead of doing the work on the marriage it's too late. By then as a man you've already moved on and made peace for yourself.

I think the reason the husband worked his forgiveness as he did was to give her the choice of doing what she wanted to do. He probably thought she would not put the work into restoring the marriage and would do it again and he didn't want the hurt he underwent the first time. Also, it doesn't matter if she lost respect for her husband since he apparently did not lose respect for himself and now has a woman that his first wife should have been. I basically did something like that. My wife had an affair while our child was less than a year old and when the divorce came around she got custody of my daughter. Well, we remarried a few months later and I didn't set any boundaries for her. When it happened the next time, I got custody of my daughter and she didn't even show up at the hearing because she did not want to lose her other two children by another marriage. She may have lost respect for me, but I didn't lose respect for myself. I have always said, it doesn't matter what the hell other people think of me as long as I think good of myself.
