Not long ago I told you about this totally tubular piece of outdoor equipment that I use constantly on my day hikes - the Mountainsmith Lumbar Pack. Well, at the time I didn’t know that this piece of equipment could get any better. Apparently, it can!!! Let me tell you about the Mountainsmith Strapettes. #Mountainsmith #MountainsmithStrapettes #fannypack #TheOutdoorNavigator #outdoors #offroad #nature #backpacking #dayhiking #hippack #hipba, #Glidebel, #waistpack #packbelt #dumppouch #buttpack #outofthebox #firstimpressions

Recently in the comment section of my Mountainsmith Lumbar Pack Review video I got some feedback asking/telling me about a double strap system for the pack, and how that would make this so much better. After some research, I discovered the Mountainsmith Strapette system. It basically converts the lumbar pack to a shoulder carry system. If you happen to be carrying a heavier load in your lumbar pack, this will help distribute the weight to make for a more comfortable, and enjoyable trip. Mountainsmith claims on their website that this will enable you to comfortably carry an additional 10-15 pounds in your lumbar pack.

Well, I had to try this for myself. Check out the video and see how they performed!

Thank you, I couldn't figure out the strapette install so this was very handy, with very clear verbal and visual instructions. While I was here I checked out the rest of your stuff, liked it, and am now a new subscriber.

The Strapettes are a game-changer, for all the reasons you mentioned. A few months back, I bought a Day lumbar pack from their website for half-price. This was before they released the new version. I figured I'd want the strapettes, and ordered them after a couple hikes using the shoulder strap. They really do take the pack to another level. I still have my Day lumbar pack that I bought in the 80's. It still works great, but the improvements over the years have made a great pack then even greater today. Mountainsmith has always made top-notch gear.

Hey! I used to live in Stanton, right up the road from the Red River Gorge! Living in WI since 2005, and miss my Red River Gorge! Thanks so much for the review. I just received the Mountainsmith Day lumbar pack to use as an everyday carry but also for hiking, and am now looking to investing in the strapettes.

They seems to have switched from 500d Cordura to some other type thinner Nylon. Any quality compromises noticed?

Thanks for the Mountainsmith gear reviews! They’re very helpful. I’m considering purchasing a pack, as well as the straps, but I’m wondering how you would access the pack while using the shoulder straps. Are the shoulder straps easily unclipped from the pack so you’re able to spin the pack to your front? Do you find this to be an issue at all?

I own the same pack in your video and was considering buying the strapettes to better distribute weight when hiking or biking (I feel the pack feels too heavy on the hips once you load about 8 lbs or more on it). I enjoyed your video and the demonstration! Great work!

What is the advantage of a bag like this vs a backpack?
