Microsoft Surface Duo 2 Review: Still Very Niche

This is the new Microsoft Surface Duo 2, the latest iteration of the Surface Duo is here, is it the second time lucky for Microsoft or should they give up on the Duo?

The Surface Duo series isn't like any other device out there, you could call it a foldable device, but I refuse to call the Surface Duo 2 a foldable device, it's more of a dual-display device that's almost creating or leading its own sector. It's not like the Z Fold 3 with one sheet of the display, it's two individual displays joined by a hinge and manipulated with software so you can use it as one or individual screens, so what's new with the Surface Duo 2?

It now has 5G capability thanks to its Snapdragon 888 Processor, something we missed from the predecessor, and most of my complaints before were that it was way behind but now we get a flagship processor that's also powerful. We now also get NFC which also supports Google Pay, and it sounds weird to think they didn't have it before, considering a sub £300 smartphone comes with it.

I'm a Duo user, I feel like People are so used to doing 1 thing at a time that when a Device comes out that forces you to do More at once People just can't handle it LMAO.

I mostly do 1 thing at a time on my Duo. And the 1 thing to me that is worth buying the Duo over many phones if not all of them is the Keyboard.... Having a Full screen Keyboard on a phone propped up on a table like a Laptop at all times is amazing. It's actually hard to get actual work done in Public because everyone wants to know what phone this is.... that's where the beauty of the Duo comes in. It makes it worth it to buy for that reason alone.

I absolutely love how there is no other phone you can buy on the market that if you are watching a movie on the phone that you don't have to stop the movie in order to respond to important emails text messages or to play games.... once you get used to a two screen phone it's very hard to go back to a boring less capable one screen phone... no matter how good the camera is on that one screen phone.

I really like my Surface Duo 2. There are so many things, you can do with the Device, what other boring Phones can´t do. I never go back to another one. 😊😁

Very in depth review as usual, I was really excited when they first announced the duo a couple of years back, but looking at the price now, it's not a very practical device for me.

Nice and informative review. Nice flow to it. But, as for the bezels, doesn´t it make sense to have these, when holding the device sideways? I do agree they don't look great but they seem to serve a function.

Thank you for this nice review. I own the Duo (1st gen) because I wanted to find out what kind of device it would be. Hence, I did not want to pay double for something I might ditch again soon. However, I must admit I just love it. Obviously, it is, as you state, a niche device that will never be something for the masses IMHO. The camera I do not miss that much because I have a Pixel 5 for that but it would be great to have the best available option for the Duo formfactor as I really do not get the camera setup in the Duo2. I understand why they did it but the bump really spoils the design (again personal) and making pictures like a grandpa with an iPad is another no go. So to me a Duo 3 would have the design like the Duo but with all the other upgrades (NFT, 5G, processor etc etc).

Ur accent is a little hard 2 follow 2 my North American ears the editing is nice I LIKE ThaT u correctly described the Duo2 as a dual-screen device NOT a folding screen device the thumbnail is also EXCELLENT.

3 Uses of Phones....PHone (duh)...Camera...and Fidget Device (swipe up down right left and all around). Four hours a day...how many minute on phone....how many minutes takig how many minutes fidgeting around andaround. FIDGET is the DOMINANT NICHE...should be evaluated as FIDGET FIRST...social, video, games. Watch your video...how visually dominant is just thumbing around...doing nect to nothing....FIDGET GADGET!
