Our city has a huge compost pile you can take your leaves to. In a couple years it turns into beautiful black dirt and that is also free. It's a win/ win.

Prevent climate change by firing up your mower to chop up your leaves. Genius.

IN Canada many municipalities use paper bags. THe leaves are composted just the same as they would be at home .... but if you have too many then they take and do it for you. They DO NOT enter landfill - the video was directed at Canadians but shows the US situation NOT the typical Canadian municipality situation. That is not a valid way of justifying leaving leaves on your lawn directed at a Canadian audience. Plastic bags for leaves are prohibited. Much reduced methane concerns as they use tools to keep aerating the mixture and keep the decomposition AEROBIC or in the presence of oxygen... IN the video the materials being added to the gardens are bark and shredded cedar NOT composted leaves.US policiy of puttiing leaves into landfill is very worng but how does that pertain to Canada? The video showing lawns being cut at a golf course is off topic since NO LEAVES are shown being cut up. If leaves are left heavy on lawns they can smother the lawn and allow damaging moulds and mildews. Here is one article of many out there that suggest you could need to replace your lawn if you leave leaves.

you shred the leaves very fine and there are not so many that they do not cut out sunlight and air that allows the surface to dry to prevent moulds and mildews that is one thing but there are generally too many leaves to leave them in place. Besides, if you leave them, they generally blow into your neighbours' lawns and carports and ditches and have to be cleaned up... so your choice makes a mess of their place. Also leaves on sidewalks and roads get slick in rain - that is where many of your unraked leaves will end up... and also in the storm sewer grates. Is that the kind of neighbour you want to be?

In general ... be a good neighbour with your leaves. Either mulch them to a very very fine state and leave them or remove them quickly so others do not have to do your work..

If you cut them and collect them with grass clippings mixed in they will compost faster in your compost heap. If you do not have room to work with all of them, then some of the shredded leaves with grass can be worked into parts of your garden. If you do not want your compost heap to make methane keep it aerated... turn the rotting materials with a garden fork frequently to allow oxygen in to oxidize any materials (aerobic) instead of allowing methane to form in an oxygen-starved situation (anaerobic)

Just do not leave whole leaves on the lawns and sidewalks please. It looks sloppy, damages the grass and often ends up in other people's places who have to keep removing them from their walks and hedges and carports and gardens after every windy day that they can move.

Or send your leaves to compost.... Our city gives you bags. You call them when they're full and they take them to a huge compost which they use for city parks lol

hmm wouldn't methane be released anyway as it decomposes?

The leaves will decompose regardless of whether they are in a dump or on your lawn.
