Blood bending is counterable like that, but it gives the water bender time to place an ice dome around themselves by crouching and using an ability with water bottles in the inventory making the attack useless

Best way to Counter blood benders is to become an air bender, you can't died to fall damage and you can you the air shield ability to prevent any other attacks they can use, plus air blast or slash can help as offensive attacks against them

Bloodbending can be countered via 2 element bendings
1 earth, takes no fall damage, can block eye sight
2. Less known, fire element benders, being near one is calling death apon you, their abilities are also easier used while in the air, they can also self save
3. Air, very rare, but can be used to self save also has a very far range with 90% of their abilities

If you use airbender's tornado well then you can throw them so they lose sight of you. Due to airbender's fall damage immunity it works very well
