I've been an employee, department manager, and eventually business owner and I fully endorse walking off the job when things are unsafe, dishonest, or dishonorable. Don't put up with a bad employer, bad co-workers, unsafe conditions.

A manager must have a complete loss of grip on reality if they'd rather someone reschedule their own wedding a day or so before the event than miss a shift! 🤣

Walmart asst manager caught me on my lunch break in the self-checkout buying something for my lunch, 6h into my shift. Chewed me out in front of customers for a solid 5 minutes about how I am not to go to lunch until she tells me to, regardless of how late into my shift it is. Then she told me to go clock back in and head to the store manager's office to get my write-up. "Ok, I'll be right there." Walked into the back room, signed in my scanner, handed over my blue vest, headed back out to the front and politely but loudly returned my recently purchased lunch at customer service right between the front office and the self-checkout line full of customers that just watched me get yelled at. They got almost as good a laugh out of it as I did.
On a side note: They ran inventory a month later to find the store missing $3 million in merchandise and $2 million in cash (which only a small number of people could've taken). So those managers don't have careers anymore, so karma I guess.

Area manager: "5 minutes is too long to take in the bathroom."
Me: "I have an a-hole, not a machine gun."

When I was 16 my first job was Burger King. I mainly worked the first window at the drive thru that took the money and stuff. It was dreadful because I worked 4 hours so I didn’t get any breaks.

Anyway, one day I saw a paper taped to the office door that said not to ask for time off on the 23, 24, and 25 of the month for whatever reason. Yeah okay whatever, I wasn’t gonna need to call off. Then my grandma died. The funeral was scheduled for the 24.

I told my manager that I couldn’t come in because of it, and she said “Sorry, no one can call off on those days.” When I told her it was for a funeral, she goes “I’m sorry for your loss, but you need to recognize your priorities.”

I took off my hat and name tag, gave it to her, said “Let me go home and change and I’ll give you back the shirt.” She said I needed a two week notice, but fuck that. Came back to give her the shirt and never went back. I’m not gonna prioritize a minimum wage part time job over my grandma’s funeral.

my favorite was my friend when she quit. they treated her like shit for years so she went and got a card from their own shop that said “sorry for your loss, get well soon” and wrote a scathing message about their mistreatment inside and gave it to the manager. fucking priceless way to quit.

This is further proof that management staff should be people who worked from the bottom line so that they know what the people they are managing are doing and living. Not some person who claims they knows what's up and think they're better than everyone else just because they have a higher rank.

If that's truly impossible, have management work the bottom line from time to time, make them feel the life of the workers, no one should be an exception to the rule, no matter how much money or influence you may have.

I quit a job on the first day. The company I was with wanted me to know their systems inside and out in one day as if I had been there for years. They kept telling me they don’t know the system well and it’s actually broken so they were hoping I could fix it for them. I also wasn’t allowed any breaks so I was expected to sit in front of a computer for 9 hours a day only taking bathroom breaks but that was it. The best part was when I sent an email to the staffing company that put me there letting them know all that, the Vice President of the company called me just to insult me. Yeah I handed in my laptop and never went back. Best decision ever.

I was a delivery driver at a pizza place. The assistant manager who was on duty during most of my shifts was a 17 year old brat who was rude to me from day one and constantly taking advantage of my work ethic. She had a cousin who was also a delivery driver.

Every night, one delivery driver was scheduled for the closing shift, which made him responsible for making sure all the dishes were done before locking up for the night. All drivers were supposed to wash dishes between deliveries, though. The bratty AM never got on her lazy cousin's case about dishes. She expected me to always pick up the slack for him.

One afternoon on my day off, another driver called to ask if I could cover his shift that day. 4pm-7pm. I accepted. Brat was on duty, and her cousin was scheduled to close with her. It was a busy night, so I didn't mind helping out for a while past 7. By 9:30 though, I was irritated and more than ready to leave. Brat told me I could leave once dishes were done. Since I had been constantly out on deliveries, I hadn't seen the dish stack until this point. It nearly reached the ceiling. It was almost comical.

I asked where Brat's cousin was, and learned he had been let off early to attend a concert. Brat fully expected me to stay to close (1am), doing her cousin's job on my night off, without even asking in advance, because her cousin felt like going to a rock show. Ha.

I told her something to the effect of, "I'm leaving. Cash me out or don't, I don't care, but I'm out of here in 60 seconds." She stared silently at me for a good 30 seconds before grudgingly separating out my tips for me. I got calls later from both the general manager and the franchise owner expressing their disappointment and ignoring my side of the story. I never returned.

I was about to put my 2 weeks from a server job, they asked me why I was quitting and I answered all the stuff that I hated about the job, paying minimum, subsidizing everything to the employees (they had us buy our own server books, notepads, pens, any extra shirts, etc), having servers pay out of pocket for dine and dash, etc. His response was "well don't point fingers at us, we haven't done anything to you".
I responded that I rather not even do the two weeks, he said "ok you can work until Sunday". That Sunday was 4th of July. I quit right there.

I worked for a walmart that the store manager became so toxic that he wanted pictures of aisles by a certain time and if things weren't up to his standard he would talk to the coaches in a way they would begin to cry. Even on days he was not there. dude was on a serious power trip. It got to the point were other people were beginning to get at each other's throats. The micromanaging just went up from there. I just left and never looked back as I will not allow myself to work for someone like that.

So, I worked for "Generic Small Convenience Store." back in 2017-2018 for 6 months. I'm contractually obligated not to give away the name of the company I worked for BUT I can tell you a few things that eventually lead up to me quitting.

1. I was 19 at the time and it was my second job ever so I never read the paperwork they made me sign. Turn's out one of those paper's was a Confidentiality Agreement and another one was basically a paper that said "Anything that happens to you in the store is on YOU, the worker and the store won't pay for it." this could mean anything(they got sued for both btw.).
2. The frequently would cut my checks wrong but I didn't notice until I had already quit. My checks were often short, only about 50 bucks a week but none the less me being a stupid kid I wouldn't ever notice that they wouldn't pay me overtime.
3. That company would frequently allow their Nightshift worker to work alone and for long hours often coming out to about 12 hours a day and often times 6 days a week. To add to this as a night shift worker my days off were split because they needed me there on Wednesday to carry in the truck for them. The reason for this is because no one the DM hired was an able bodied person, they were all 40-60 year old women(Of which he had tried to advance upon many times.).
4. The final nail in the coffin for me was that the Night Shift was expected to do everything for morning shift, this meant that I had to cook food for 4 hours straight, clean both restrooms even if i was alone, mop and clean the whole store alone AND go into our cooler and stock it, again, alone. Despite the fact they had a woman assaulted in that same store when she did it. This was honestly agony, the sheer amount of work i had to do was too much.

6 months after working there and complaining and asking for help, going to HR who told me to "Fuck off." I chose to do nothing at all one night. That morning my boss and Assistant Manager came in and wouldn't say a word to me. I got my bosses attention for a split second and said "I'm looking for another job." and she ignored me and rolled her eyes. Big mistake. That morning I went home and the first thing I did was apply to a competitor company down the road, they called me in 30 minutes and basically said "Your Hired." so i called in that monday night, took my tuesday off and then never showed up to do the truck for them on Wednesday. My boss called me at 7:30AM(i was supposed to be there at 5 AM) and said "Hey, you know your supposed to come in to unload the truck right?!" and i told her "Oh, I remember tell you i was looking for another job right, and you ignored me..." she stayed silent for a second "Well i wasn't very satisfied with your performance that morning." and i told her "Oh, i wasn't very satisfied with the companies for months and i'm pretty sure that your truck isn't my problem anymore."

Hung up and about 2 year's later the chain got sued 4 times for 4 separate things, bought out by another company and meanwhile I'm doing perfectly fine at a competitor that treats me better than any job i've ever had before in my life.

Fresh out of high school I got my second job ever installing steel stud frames and drywall. Worked at this company for 8 months and got pretty good at it. I was making $15 an hour and had asked for a raise in my 7th month, but to no avail. Started my 8th month and had a new worker join our crew with no experience at all. After his first two weeks found out that he was one of the higher ups brother and was making $18 with no experience. Needless to say I started making some calls and was able to find another job that was $20 starting and would start me the next week. I didn't show up to the old job, kept ignoring calls, walked in the last payday didn't speak to anyone just grabbed my cheque and walked out.

The mugged Dominol's delivery driver's wallet was stolen. Something tells me their driver's license was in there. So, not only did they disregard a traumatic experience. They also attempted to compell said delivery driver to do sbdelivery run without a license.

I went in for an open interview at Signature Brands and the sign said "$16.50/HR" After signing 30 minutes worth of paperwork i was called into this office. The lady sat down and tried to pitch me a min wage job at a company that wasnt even theirs. I told her i would give her a callback and she goes "No i tHiNk WeRe DoNe HeRe" i got up, told her to have a great day. On my way out told EVERYONE in the waiting room that the job was a scam and if they were expecting a $16.50 job to forget about it because it aint gonna happen. DONT FOLD!
