Recently went to Alaska and saw the Russian orthodox churches there. Learned a lot about the history, so cool and you’re absolutely right. They had indigenous stuff integrated with their churches.

I love learning about Orthodox presence in Alaska and America

I'm Mexican and Catholic Spaniards did not "force" the Indigenous here. The Indigenous were relieved to convert to a faith that did not require wild human sacrifices like the Aztecs. The Indigenous also had translated sacred texts from the Spanish. We have sacred music in their own languages. Catholic missionaries saw them as humans and incorporated their culture into the faith. Mexican culture is literally the product of the Catholic faith between European and Indigenous peoples. In contrast, I've noticed Orthodox Church is very secluded and ethno centered, a huge contrast from Catholicism which is universal.

The protestants were abusive but the Catholic missionaries and evangelists didn’t force them. And some Spanish high ranking people married indigenous people

Correction: Catholic missionaries (mostly Jesuits) peacefully converted indigenous peoples and similarly integrating indigenous traditions with Christian worship. You confuse the Conquistadors who brutalised the natives with the Spanish missionaries who followed the Law of Burgos (King Charles I of Spain made law that protected native peoples human rights but the Conquistadors ignored it)

Uhm the Spanish were converting the aztecs and maya, some of the most brutal religious systems we have ever seen. If some force had to be used to end human sacrifice, that's fine by me

Thank you for this. This is one of the biggest things that drew me to Eastern Orthodoxy: the message and the method of sharing the message cannot be separated.

You cannot love God and hate your enemies.

We recently discussed this in our parish regarding helping the Orthodox Church in Alaska. I don’t have all the details, but I heard that a certain Protestant group did them a great deal of harm.

The most important conversions that occurred in America where thanks to the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe 🇬🇵, where 9 million natives converted to roman Catholicism

The Mission(1986), starring Robert De Niro, is a movie based on a true story. It shows how the Catholics conducted missionary activities. Also, it's a feel-good movie with stunning visuals, etc.

The Spanish Missionaries did the same as the Orthodox, tons of native culture was incorporated. For example, look at the relation of Coatlicue (a Prehispanic goddess of death and life and other dualities) with Nuestra Señora Virgen de Guadalupe, as well as anything else you said. That, with the indigenous idea of "Gods are who deliver victories, so their god must be better" (reason of tlaxcallan conversion on mass) is why the Christian catholic faith entered the hearts of the natives here

This is so way over simplified, I don’t even know where to begin.
Let me just say this, Hispanoamérica, was not a colony. In law and custom, these lands were a continuation and part of Spain, like any other region or province of the Iberian Peninsula.
The Indians were subjects of the crown, on an even plain with the native Spaniards.
The crown recognized the rights of her new subjects, and even were granted tiles of nobility to the royal Indian families.
Spanish nobles married Indian woman of noble families, recognizing their equality of nobility.
Indian nobles led Spanish armies as generals, conquering northern Mexico, commanding both Spaniards and Indians.
The vast majority of Indians converted to The Faith, was done by the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe, dress as an Indian Princess. Let’s not forget the great effort of the religious orders, and their friars.
Before the establishment of Harvard in 1636, there where already 10 universities established in Spanish America, mostly attended by these Indians, that were now full subjects of the crown. These men even served as viceroys, in America. Second only to the king.
In Spanish America, there was one language, one king, and most importantly, one Faith. This was true for over 300 years.

Yes, I noticed this too, you can't force people to love the lord, they have to choose to come into his full embrace.

French Catholic missionaries did exactly what you describe here in New France. Things turned bad during the British rule.

I'm not even Catholic, and this feels like a malicious misrepresentation of Catholic history.

Edit: am becoming Catholic. Have just started RCIA.

I would recommend looking into Bernardino de sahagun in the florentine codex. Native Culture in Mexico was preserved. The Roman catholic Order Friar Minor(OFM) franciscans did many of the same things as Russian orthodox christians.

I'm a bit tired of the Black legend about Spanish conquests. They didn't christianize the New World as seen in the video, remotedly. It was more similar to the methods described for the Eastern Orthodox missionaries

Orthodoxism is much more demanding than any other approaches or beliefs out there. It asks you to literally make a lot of time for god and know the readings as you should. It's the most conservative belief in Christianity and if you want the genuine unchanged religion than you definitely go conservative
