Are you a fan of the classic legal sitcom Night Court? It was truly one of the best sitcoms of the 80s – and still one of the best sitcoms in American television history. Night Court matched the spirit of the Old West with humor and high drama – making it the perfect TV series. But eventually, all good things must come to an end.

The show ran from 1984 to 1992 for 9 seasons and 193 episodes. The show’s creators had to come up with stories and characters that would sustain the audience’s interest for almost a decade.

Night Court had to face a lot of competition. The 1980s were a golden age for American sitcoms as well as for American comedy films. The show was based on actual judges and actual court cases.

The show also had to hire the best actors to create these memorable characters. The show’s creators worked hard to design this ideal ensemble in order to make the show such a success.

Nevertheless, despite this winning formula – it wasn’t always easy to keep the show on the air. Especially during the ninth season, which became the final season, the writers began to struggle with the scripts. They felt they had to churn out the scripts rather than write them via sheer inspiration.

The show was a quintessential 80s sitcom, but it continued to the early 90s when sitcoms were changing, and the audience wanted to see something different. The show still managed to persist all the way up to 1992. It’s a tribute to the show’s success and the great team behind it.

Nevertheless, eventually, the court was no longer in session. Night Court managed to last for 8 years and is now an American institution in and of itself.

That was probably one of the most anti-climatic explanations I've ever heard. Who else thought that they were going to see some controversial ending that caused them to cancel the show??

Harry Stone, not Jones. And Anderson made his name on Cheers, not SNL. Poorly researched and misleading video.

What was the scene that took it off the air? Are you saying it was just the last episode and then they notified the cast that they were to cancelled next season? You never showed the scene that took them off the air. I liked the show, but not your premise here.

Just stop with the fake tease ads? No scene got Night Court taken off the air. It was on forever, for most of the 1980s and into the 1990s and it had run its course

I remember the final episode of Night Court, and it ended with Bull being taken away by aliens, Dan chasing after Christine to Washington, D.C, while Harry, Roz and Mac stayed in New York. I don't get why you said it ended abruptly.

Back in the day, we imagined "Night Court goes to 'Cheers'"'. Sam and Dan Fielding compare their conquests, and Carla is puzzled by Bull.😄

Harry's last name was Stone not Jones

Definitely one of the best sitcoms out there. It definitely should have gotten a better ending.

No, I didn't grow up with Night Court. I was almost 35 when it premiered. I was single, and if I didn't have a date, this was must-see.

4:49 you must not have watched the Fall Guy. They wanted her originally to play that role, but because of that show she was unable to, and later joined Night Court after it ended. Her part was literally written for her, already being a star.

Yes, I remember "Night Court, " it was very amusing to watch, with good actors/actresses. Personally, I feel the show had "ran it's course" for prime time viewing on major channels.

If I remember correctly, the final episode featured Christine leaving to begin her political career in DC, Dan leaving to follow her, Harry mulling over several dream job offers including becoming part of Mel Torme’s entourage before deciding to stay on the bench, Roz also deciding to stay (can’t remember if she had a better offer or not), Mac going full time into the motion picture industry, and Bull being taken to Jupiter by a couple of humanoid senior citizens so he could assist its civilization by getting things off their high shelves. 😄

The sitcom with the tallest group of actors ever.

I love watching on Laff. I hope they can repeat the magic with the re-boot. Melissa Raunch will play Abby Stone, Harry Stone's daughter, and John Larroquette will reprise his role as Dan Fielding. I believe Marcia Warfield and Richard Moll are the only other living cast members. I hope they make appearances in the re-boot.

Whoever told you you can buy land and get a title was a liar. And if you're stating that, you're a liar too. It never has and never will been that way.

I kinda thought it was over in that episode where Harry was not appointed a judge anymore.

From what I understand, the upcoming show isn't a reboot, but a revival, with John Laroquette returning as Dan Fielding (but with Melissa Rauch playing Harry Stone's daughter Abby, as Harry Anderson died years ago). It'll probably suck as much as other revivals, so it's best just to stick with the reruns.
