Hey guys. So Im a natural hairstylistt based in New Orleans,Louisiana.

I get a lot of questions about blow drying natural hair.

Yes. I blow dry all of my clients for most hairstyles except for maybe two or three. So some of the benefits are of blow drying is it helps with single strand knots on the ends and it makes it easier to style your hair.

So you don't have to fight against texture. If you found this helpful, drop a fire emoji and check the comments because I am having a free online training.

I've been blow drying my 14 yo daughters kinky hair for about 3 years now. She has A LOT of hair. Blow drying actually helped her hair, zero heat damage and makes her styles last longer. ❤️

I think it’s the ‘fight against texture’ comment that’s rubbing people the wrong way. I have 4c hair and after I take out my protective style blow drying is a must for me. If I don’t do it would be full of knots.

Single strand knots are the BANE of my existence and exactly the reason why I started blowing out my natural hair, more often.

blow drying has helped my hair tremendously. I no longer have a many single strand knots, I'm now seeing more length, and my detangling time has been cut in half . My hair texture is fine, and so far I have not had any heat damage.

I blow dry after every wash. I see absolutely no need to be dealing with knots and tangles when there is a simple solution. A good moisturizer and heat protectant and there are no issues.

My hair grew a lot during the Pandemic because I was no longer getting it blow dried at the salon. I limit the number of times to few times per year because my hair is prone to breakage with excessive use. Clients should be allowed to chose.

Some of y’all in the comments funny lol! Acting like blow drying your hair is a sin now. First it was the chemicals, now we can’t blow dry?! Yea right. It’s all about the “how”. I don’t know many stylists with the time to wait on your “stretching method” to air dry. Blow drying has always been effective and less time consuming, especially when you’re trained to know what you’re doing. There are cool and warm settings, BTW. To each is her own 🙏🏽

Isn’t being a ‘natural hairstylist’ job to work with hair in it’s natural state🤷🏽‍♀️ i’m confused

Whether or not it makes the hair easier to work with is not the question. My hair is easier to work with after I use a flat iron on it, that doesn't mean the flat iron isn't damaging my hair.

“So you don’t have to FIGHT against texture” 😳 You lost me there mama. Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t natural hairstylists supposed to be able to work with the natural state and texture of the client’s hair? 🥴 I blow dry my natural hair because when I air dry it literally takes days to dry, but if I pay a natural hairstylist to do it, she better work miracles without putting heat to it! Lol 😂

Natural hair stylist that cannot work primarily with natural hair in it's natural state.

We need to start being honest and reflecting on the things that we say.

You lost me at fight against texture. There is no such thing as fight against a natural texture unless the hair is damaged to no repair. Natural hair is beautiful and has no fight, just moisturize it and section it off and have patience. The fact that you blow dry nearly almost all of your clients just to be able to style it, means you’re not really a natural hair stylist if you have to manipulate it just to style it. Ya lost me 🤷🏽‍♀️

I have started blow drying more because I realized that my hair grows better straight. When curly it will knot together and break off.

Nothing wrong with blow drying ofcourse! But if you have to "fight against texture" then you arent a natural hair stylist lol.

I truly believe the benefits to blow drying is 100% dependent on how the client’s hair responds to blow drying and should not be simply generalized as beneficial or non-beneficial. 💗

I have natural hair... i hate when you said, "easier to style the hair so you don't have to fight against texture." Our hair IS textured, and it is this rethoric that made all of us feel insecure growing up. I have no problem with my hair in its NATURAL state. No fighting. Just gentle tlc.

You’re not a natural hair stylist if you straighten every clients hair. Doesn’t mean you aren’t skilled or have talent but that’s not a natural hair stylist. You even said fight against texture so you believe you in getting rid of peoples natural textures which again isn’t what natural stylist do.
