I'm just surprised you were able to catch her. she looks like she could pack a punch! I think you should keep her, if you are gonna keep her, give her some materials to build a nest with.

By now that thing has memorized your entire family tree, future generations and address simply because you interacted with it

That’s a mahogany wasp, they’re common in warmer climates. If they sting they leave a massive agonizing welt, and their stings leave scars.

As someone who lives in the middle of the woods and is constantly attacked by these territorial B-52s in the summer, I don't recommend keeping her.

I used to find these little guys in my house like every other week, they're pretty chill, never acted aggressive, but I'll never let one touch me, I get a napkin and release them.

For all of you who are wondering: there are no other wasps. If a queen is just out and about like this, that means that she is either looking for a place to nest, or she is looking for food for her nest. If she is looking for food, this means that she doesn’t have any workers, as the workers would typically do those kinds of jobs.

And 2 weeks later guy wakes up thinkin hes in 1940s London and cant figure out where that plane engine sound is coming from. He peers out the window only to see this Wasps army here to save the Queen

No, you can not remove the wings, or else it will die. It needs to gather material to build the nest and hunt whatever it needs to eat.

I have 6 pet wasps and I can handle them all with my bare hands. They never sting me, and in fact seem to recognize me in particular, waving their tiny forearms to get picked up when I walk by.
There are a few factors that are different here, though:
1, These wasps came from a nest that I had been watching over all year, approaching them, offering food, eventually earning enough trust to handle a few that became comfortable enough with that.

2, The wasps I can handle without offering food were born in that nest this year. I'm the first human they saw. Although, it speaks volumes that the elders let me hold their young in front of them. It's really freaking cool!

3, I've let these wasps be wild with only 6 exceptions. The exceptions are pets because they have birth defects that prevent them from being able to fly. As for the rest of them, I only observe them and see that they stay on friendly terms with people as long as their on my front porch.

So... You could potentially get this wasp to get used to you enough to not sting you or any guest that comes over, but you may never be able to handle it, and it could be a hassle if she gets out.

For pet wasps, I recommend becoming friendly with an existing nest. In the fall, the newborns will start surfacing and some will inevitably have defects, at least statistically. Most common defect is being born flightless. Not only do those wasps make good pets, but you'll be saving some lives in the meantime. They're also one of the few insects that will actually recognize you and have the ability to learn.

I think you should keep it with the wings. Let a colony grow so massive that you can't contain it. Then give them your house.

Wasps keep grudges. If you want to not be stung in the future. Keep it til it dies and then throw it out as fast as possible

I think you should pass on the wasp. I think you are right, she looks like a queen.

Thats not a Queen. Thats a drone from a Copper wasp nest. Their friendly, good thing to. Only insect that flys with a stronger sting is a Japanese murder hornet.(you dont want that boy to sting you) if you are stung shower immediately. If your smelled (stung) all the coppers around are related to each other. So they come is droves if your the one with that smell from the sting. Their Queen is huge and looks nothing like them. Usually yellow and black. With some rare purple and copper on her. Shes like spindely and like 8 to 9 inches long and is known as a traveling Queen. She'll have many many nest in a massive 5 to 10 mile radius. Ive only seen a Queen once it attacked my cat. Scared the crap out of him too lol.
