Incredible animation on battling and overcoming anxiety - BBC

Narrated in first person, this film explores the impact of anxiety and how it can affect your life.

Aneeka and Sam’s testimony is open and honest, and creates an intimate portrait into what it is like to live with severe anxiety, and what might cause it. Aneeka traces the root of her anxiety to her lack of confidence with people and at school; which affected her communication.

Her treatment from peers at school pushed her further into herself and she became more reclusive. However, it was moving to a grammar school which badly affected her mental health, as she suddenly felt not good enough.

Aneeka’s deteriorating mental health meant she missed sitting her GCSEs, but it wasn't until she attempted an overdose that she received professional help. Sam sees the link between his isolation at home and at school which caused him to feel like a complete outsider.

Exaggerated by his different interests to the rest of his year group, he just felt like he never fit in. Slowly, his emotions and anxieties built up with no healthy outlet. It wasn’t until he found professional help through CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) that he found he could open up - and the weight was lifted.

Both Aneeka and Sam discuss the physical symptoms of anxiety. Their testimony highlights how overwhelming the experience of panic or anxiety attacks can be and gives an insight for those who may never have experienced them.

This film also highlights and takes students through the channels of help which may be available to them if they are experiencing similar feelings as those described in the film, including breaking down the processes within these channels.

The way I describe anxiety is like you’ve missed a step on a flight of stairs, that stomach dropping and heart beating but it is constant

Anxiety can be tough because it can make you feel really uneasy and worried all the time.

It’s the most tiring disorder because it comes with so many physical symptoms too such as panic attacks and the thoughts that race with the symptoms

This video is just howw I feel sometimes.
I'm scared of my own voice, how I look, almost everything when I speak to someone that it's not my family.
I'm doing the best I can. I know we are all in an internal fight. We can do this. Much love and blessings.

I have High-Functioning Autism plus Anxiety and this video really helps me to explain a lot of things about my anxiety. I am petrified of storms, don't have friends apart from social media, barely go out.

for you who feel this: you are sensitive, and sensitivity is the most beautiful thing a human being can feel, just learn to control it✨

I'm 21 completely failing med school and my anxiety keeps me in bed, I don't talk no more, I look twice my age and less motivated... I wanna fix myself at this point..
I am so down everyday even now deleting all my social media hasn't helped but I need to find myself.
It's not too late..not yet

I still struggle with anxiety but it used to be much much worse (I couldn’t meet up with friends as a kid because it was too terrifying and I’d get panic attacks at least once a day). I found great friends through climbing and slowly trying new things.
It’s all about little baby steps out of your comfort zone to slowly show your brain that actually, what it’s trying to protect you from isn’t dangerous.
I know it’s so scary but to anyone going through anxiety or anything similar right now, you can do it <3 it’s not your fault you’re feeling this but you do have the power to change your brain’s thought patterns and that’s a positive thing 💜

This just made me feel worse, it reaffirmed my thoughts and ended on the message "talk to someone". Like I haven't tried

Im autistic and have adhd, plus anxiety. Ive had anxiety my entire life. This video explains how anxiety is somethines. Its like putting your foot on the gas and brake at the same time. Engine is racing but youre not goingbanywhere. Took me 16 years to learn how to drive.( metaphorically) and i still am learning.

It’s all exactly like me most of this and I still suffer with high Anxiety and Depression and I’m born with ASD. I never had friends, well I did when I was younger but they never understood me and I felt very distant from school I hardly went and cried everyday and wanted to stay in my bedroom all the time and play games and eat for comfort and sleep all day.

I am from 🇵🇭philippines 15 million American suffering this Social Anxiety Disorder I don't know if I'm the only one experiencing it in my country.
I believe that the pinoy is poetic and courageous when it comes to speaking in people but not all. I feel fear, anxiety, avoiding eye contact, sweating, speechless, avoiding crowds and other fears of interacting with many people. Others think and think that I am a jerk, crazy, weird, have my own world/government and are sick. I do not know what to do so the only way to stop it is to pray to God so we can fight this battle and we can just trust it. The best solution here is to face what you fear the most ...🙂.
