I was a small church guy until I went to a multi-site mega church Libertylive church in VA. The way I explain it to friends, is, it's a big church with a small church feel. Lots of small groups and bible studies, not just at the sites but hosted in people's homes. As you mentioned, resources available to counsel, teach, fund literature for teaching. Both global and local missions. ESL courses, food pantry, medical ministry. And above all, it's a SCRIPTURE based and driven church.

Pastors should be judged by the gospel that they preach, not how many people are in their congregation.

Christ Church of the Valley (CCV) in Phoenix is like this and I love it. People know your name when you walk in which is great! Lots of opportunities for small groups.

It is up to the Christian to decide what is right and wrong if they are in a church, if a pastor is not preaching the right message from God and sticking to the Bible then it is up to the Christian to find a new church that agrees with God's messages and the teaching of God's word

Resources and means to do great work in the community is wonderful. However, unless the Gospel of Christ is preached (not the seeker centric ear tickling version of it) not of it matters.

Yeah this is still such a small percentage of the overall problem. About time pastors live what they preach...

I believe that the analogy regarding airplanes is to point out that there are many planes (scandals) out there, you only hear of the ones that didn’t land well (didn’t get managed/covered well). I could definitely be wrong, however, as represented this does seem to be the point. Not that there are only the few planes (scandals) that you hear about.

It would still be true that most of the church is doing good, however, there seems to be more than is exposed.
