Stranger Things: The Complete History of Alexei | Horror History

Dr. Alexei is the kidnapped Russian scientist in Stranger Things, but we need to explore his childhood in order to fully understand his character.

Alexei is a USSR scientist hired to build the massive drill into the Upside-Down via a gate underneath The Starcourt Mall in Hawkins. Due to his perceived age, Alexei would have grown up during the communist regime in Russia in the 50s and 60s. Being a kid during this time had a major effect on him and we see it in his story on Stranger Things.

Alexei's appearance in Hawkins in 1984 and 1985 juxtaposes his socialist background with the aggressive capitalism of the mall which is the centerpiece of Season 3.

In this video, I'll be analyzing Alexei's entire life story, from his youth, to his earliest appearance in Hawkins, the capture at the hands of Jim Hopper and his unfortunate demise at the hands of the Soviet henchman, Grigori.

I'll also explain why his love of 7/11 Slurpees, Burger King and other western commodities is actually very important to understanding his character.

For this analysis, I'll only be considering the canon material, in this case: the web series Stranger Things. Alexei does not appear in the comics.

How happy he was just seeing a funfair. Shows how brutal his world was

His death was tragic, he had most likely just experienced the happiest moment of his life up to that point only to have it cut short.

Alexei was one of my favorite characters from that season.. I really wanted him to become a permanent cast member, which made his dead even more crushing to me.. poor guy

Even the secondary characters in this show are so well thought out. You root for them or hate them . But when something happens the ones you're rooting for your so sad for them. That's great writing and directing.

Aw Alexi showing off his stuffed toy win to Murray is so pure and good. His death hit me even harder than Barbs!

God damn, it hurts seeing Alexei smiling so hard before the Hitman meets up with him.

I have this theory that the reason why Murray learned karate in season 4 is because of Alexi. When alexi got shot he told Joyce how he just stood there and wasn't able to do anything, so seeing Murray use his karate to beat up the pilot was a cool redemption

Alexeis death hurt bro, just looking back on how happy he was without having those bad Russians watching him.. man.. i always get attached to the kinds of characters who are shy, side character, less known, awesome. Its amazing how Alexei wasnt afraid, unlike other shy, happy characters.

I remember going to watch The Nutcracker ballet in elementary school. The performance group was from the USSR and later our teacher told us 2 of them defected to the US instead of returning home

Aw, poor Alexei. He was such a great side character in Season 3, and deserved better than his sudden death.

I like that you were talking about all the characters that all died a tragic death and you’re giving them some spotlight I’m really happy about that 👍🏻, and RIP to all them maybe if they make a season five all those characters come to life as zombies 🧟‍♀🧟🧟‍♂🧟‍♀🧟🧟‍♂
