Can you play GBC games on the Original GameBoy?

Depends on the carts, all clear carts are gbc exclusive and the black carts are called gbc enhanced.

You can also do this by putting a Gameboy Color cartridge in the Super Gameboy

You can actually use a GameShark to force a gameboy color game to run on a original gameboy but the sprites look weird

I believe either the SGB, light or pocket can fit a gbc game without a dmg shell, so they added the message to stop this from hapenning. Some games have a special screen to stop it from booting instead if just generic text.

The latch was designed so you couldn’t pull the game out while it was on

You can play gbc games on the original. 1. Cut the tab lock off the console 2. Don't use games that say GBC only on the box

You can go by the color of the cartridge but the easiest thing to check for is if it has that notch for the power switch.

I feel like there is some situation where this has to work because in link's awakening dx, in the color dungeon, it makes you correctly identify the colors the two guards are wearing before you can enter. Which means there is probably some way to get it running on a black and white gameboy. Why would that test be there otherwise?

Wait I have a question about the game boys you customize if I have the screen for a gameboy color that’s backlit do you have to have the shell for it to use the backlit screen or not?
