We are all about fun and fast cars, and so I'm going to walk you through 10 fun, fast, and still cheap cars that you will enjoy and won't break the bank.

As we went through and developed this list, we saw cars from BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, and all of our favorite European brands...oh and even a Neon!

The biggest problem with cheap Mercs and Beemers (aside from the fact that most are bloody boring sludgeboxes) is that repairs are horribly expensive...

The biggest problems with the SRT-4 were reliability and *ABYSMAL* crash test performance, the word “tinfoil” springs to mind...
and I’ve owned a first gen and second gen Neon, they handle brilliantly but they have absolutely no crash integrity

I live in a city so most of these cars are not on my buy list . Lucky for me I'm less two miles from two major highways so driving into suburbs is not a issue Boxer is the only one that would sense to around town . I plan buying 09 M3 which I plan on driving just on the weekends and mountains .

Very interesting list! I've owned several of the bmws you mentioned (non m) and even they had some pep given the engine size and trim level. The GTO was definitely hated on here in the states, but on paper it's a definite performer. Another one to look out for is the Chevy SS (essentially another rebadged holden). Which leads me to, what is your take on some good cruisers.

A buddy of mine had a 2006 GTO with flow master exhaust and other mods.. that thing was an insane animal. I called it the “Goataroo” because of its Holden rebadging.

I’ve always preferred the 300 ZX to the Supra, don’t know why it doesn’t have the same cult status. My picks would be E46 M3, E39 540i, 300ZX. I’ve had a couple of friends who owned the M3 and found them reliable, tyres and brakes expensive but no major repairs.

Interesting list. I almost bought a Z32 TT and a GTO when I was shopping for a E30 325 before I got my E46 325i. I gotta say the W210 E55 AMG is such an underrated V8 monster. They have bulletproof V8 engines compared to the E39 M5. But the E39 M5 is a better drivers car than the AMG on the track.

I used to have a 540i M sport package, pretty bad ass acceleration at the time.

Cheap and fast. Can’t beat american cars.

You might be able to tune those german engines for massive HP numbers, but the rest of the car will blow up, starting usually with the transmission and differential. Then other parts break with high HP. Everything needs to be built, including the chassis as they weren't designed for such high power.
The M5 looks nice but if Hoovies garage has taught us anything it's that what first is cheap soon becomes expensive. 11K in repairs on day 1 with a used M5.
This list is ridiculous. Every car will cost you thousands per year just to keep on the road with endless electrical problems.

If you want cheap and fast, get an F body. Way simpler design and way easier and CHEAPER to make it go faster than all of these dumb wannabe luxury choices.
If you want cheap, fast and RELIABLE, there is only one answer: Corvette. No better bang for your buck exists. Not even remotely close.
