Pixel Watch 3 Detailed Hands-On: 23 New Things To Know!

Most headlines today will tout the new Pixel Watch 3 finally being available in a secondary larger 45mm size. And indeed, that’s a big deal. It’s no longer the tiny little watch the first two generations of Pixel watch were.

However, in many ways, that’s actually not the most important new thing on the Pixel Watch 3 - at least for sports and fitness people. Instead, it’s the dramatic new focus on training load, readiness, running features, and much more when it comes to sports and fitness. Even moreso, it’s a huge shift for the accompanying Fitbit app that drives much of that experience. The app has radically shifted from being one that felt constrained to it’s long history of overly simplifying metrics, to an app that seems to bridge the gap towards what an athlete might actually want. Which isn’t to say it’s trying to be a Garmin/Suunto/Polar/etc watch, but rather, it’s trying to compete more directly with what the likes of Apple and Samsung have offered in recent years around sports-specific training functionality.Note I’ve had some hands-on time with the watches, as well as an entire day with the engineers behind it, and also, an actual run with the watch. Ultimately though, this is not a review. Not even close. That’ll come down the road in September, when the watches get reviewed and I can properly test all the features.Let’s dive into it!

Hi All - just a minor fix on pricing, as I swapped the two middle-priced models, it should be:

- 41mm: $349 for WiFi, $449 for LTE edition
- 45mm: $399 for WiFi, $499 for LTE edition

Love the improvements of the pixel watch. 3. Sadly, a lot of these improvements feel like software upgrades, so I'm hopeful that Google releases the same update towards the pixel watch. 2. There's no reason it shouldn't be able to do it considering it has the exact same hardware. Google software locking this would make them no better than apple

How much of the newest software features will make it to Pixel Watch 2 since hardware is basically the same?

The prices at the online Google Store are different than what you showed at 0:45. For example the 45 mm model with wi-fi goes for $400. Maybe that price is good for the pre-order period only.

Ray you are a Strava user. It would be interesting for you to review the Strava App that runs on the Pixel Watch. It can send Strava Beacon from the LTE watch (with no phone present) so my family knows where I am running.

Compared to my FR 945 LTE Live Track it does not seen as reliable or updated as often. I moved to a 965 so rely on Beacon. Even though I have to wear a 2nd watch the LTE allows calling and texting that cannot be done with the 945.

I use a Pixel phone and Google Fi so the Pixel Watch is my best option.

Are structured workouts only for running? Would really want to be able to combine any number of different types workouts.

Google store seems to be suggesting the structured workouts won't be coming to the older watches. Considering it's clearly just down to software that's very disappointing. Even Apple aren't that bad. If Garmin ever release a cellular forerunner/fenix watch I'd imagine it's going to completely decimate the Pixel and Apple watch sales.

I need a watch that can 1) Run the Strava app with auto-pause and audio feedback, and 2) Stream podcasts and You Tube Music over cellular with a very efficient UX and with no need to bring your phone. The Apple Watch's YT Music app can't stream, so I'm hoping this is the one.

It seems to me like galaxy watch 7/ultra exactly the same, only in different graphics :)
