collectors and watch geeks may be be turning away from rolex but the trend followers and those who only know one name in luxury watches will continue to buy and flex as you put it. thanks for the video.

They lost me when I realized I wasn’t allowed to buy a new 39mm Explorer. And then they discontinued it. Loving my Railmaster, so no loss to me!

A Grand Seiko is my grail watch not a Rolex, I can't stomach 80% of the price I pay for a watch going towards marketing hype rather than the watch itself.

Buy what you like. Wear what what you want.

As Federico said in his last video - Rolex are the Toyota of the Luxury watch world. They make good, robust, mass produced watches that are made on an assembly line. There’s nothing special about them. I hope this trend continues, if people wise up then the watches I want to buy will start rising!

I buy watches for myself not to impress others. If I wanted to impress my colleagues with my watch I would get a fossil.

I also think that, because of the social media hype of AP, Rolex and Patek that the more distinguished gentleman will start looking more toward brands like JLC, Lange and Vacheron. I can even see the dresswatch making a big comeback in the future, at the moment it is all sportswatches

Spot on.
For the prices they (and worse, the scalpers) charge, I would much rather get a Grand Seiko (SLGA007) or Glashütte Original (SeaQ).
The other thing is, I don't want to be a "Rolex-person"; a type of person I associate with being boring, even if that doesn't apply to all people who own a Rolex.

I would normally think these reasons are silly, but lately I'm feeling the same way. I have a Sub and many of these factors are affecting my love of the watch. Sell it and be done with the brand? Struggling with that at the moment. Should probably just drown all that out and enjoy it for the great watch it is

l bought 3 rolex back in 90's and 2003 op, gmt master and sub .and i never thought of buying another rolex again because of the reasons you said, also i don't understand how people these days paying double the retail price sometimes even more, i never care about what people think what watch brand am wearing.
thanks for the video, ,

I have owned over 20 Rolex watches in the past 40 years and just recently divested myself of the last 2, at a healthy profit I might add. I used some of the proceeds to buy a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms (at a discount) and couldn't be happier. fit, finish, and accuracy far exceeding any of the Rolex I owned. Like you I still like Rolex watches, just not the stigma that now goes with the brand.

Great video Chris, you are saying what a lot of us have been thinking for a while. I completely agree 100%.

I developed my opinion towards Rolex as "meh" when in high school 45 yrs. ago, working in a high-end jewelry store as a stock & shipping/receiving clerk part time. I developed my opinions at the tender age of 18, when no one was an Instagrammer, definitely no social media nor interwebz were involved. I shipped out a Rolex about once week for repair and whenever I'd see one I just though "why are these so special? I don't get it". The one that really perplexed me was the "President" model, the 18 kt. gold one. Gaudy is what came to mind when I first saw that watch.

But the Seikos and Omegas they had, that was a different story, they seemed like the future (now, many of those models were quartz), the Rolex came across as a Model T by comparison (especially after I saw a push-button operated Omega, first time I'd see a watch with no crown, I was in love until I saw that price!).

It's not Rolex though I have anything against. But to this day, after seeing too many diamond encrusted Rolexes in that job, it's just that some of their 'fans' remind me of, well, let's keep this a G-rated :-)

Omega movements are now better than the Rolex movements.

Fortunately I got my ROLEX fix in the late 1970s.... I just walked into my local jewellery store and picked up a submariner ref 5513 and a 36mm Air King with a machined bezel... Brought both together for less than 1k.... NO PATHETIC WAITING LIST... In 2021 rolexs are overpriced, overrated, overhyped, mass produced uncomplicated watches... Boycott this brand because the way they treat you guys is an absolute I'll stick with my favourite brands LONGINES, FORTIS, ETERNA, forget rolex

I think 2019 was the last year a watch enthusiast could purchase a new Rolex. After that you had to be a whale 🐋 or have an extensive purchase history at the AD. For me if I wanted another Rolex from my AD I’d have to buy a bunch of expensive junk to “QUALIFY “ for a popular model. I’m moving on!😎

Rolex doesn't need or care about collectors. There are more than enough people who just want one as a status symbol to suck up all that are available.

I prefer a Tudor, Omega and Longines. For me a Rolex is too vulgar. I remember when you used to get one from a company for twenty five years service. I can’t justify having that amount of money tied up in a watch . So you no the Richard Meil et al are out of the question.

Great points Chris, I share the same sentiments.
