You CAN play famicom games with a Famicom to NES adaptor. It just needs a 72 to 60 pin adaptor. There are several on Ebay you could check out.

Very cool! These clone systems are becoming increasingly well designed.

This problem with yooshi's island is that it needs more energy coming from the console in order to maintain the co-processor. Actualy, as the system runs with a battery, and it is a hardware emulator, it does not (probablly) provide the enough power so these chips/co-processors can be ran. But, in fact is really a good portable clone device as an option against the SNES or others console it emulates, as the prices are too high and also it is a good item to be collectible by game collectors (like me).

My RDP works just fine with the Super FX / MARIO chip.

I bought one of these yesterday. Charged it up and was excited to play some Tecmo Super Bowl in bed before I went to sleep. I know the reviewer said the d-pad was a bit disappointing but I wasn't expecting this. There were times where my player actually ran in the OPPOSITE direction I was pressing on the d-pad. I'm not sure if it was just that game or maybe I got a unit with a faulty d-pad. But that is just crazy.

And here I thought a 1st gen Game Boy with every accessory on it was big.

But, holy shit that retro port is insane. Awesome stuff, Craig.

I have an RDP, but mine plays Star Fox and Yoshi's Island mostly flawlessly. One thing that I noticed is that it doesn't like dirty cartridges, so that my be a problem, combined with the fact that Super fx chips are hard to work on clone consoles.

The NES RetroPort that plugs into the Super NES will also work on the RetroDuo Portable as well and with that one it is compatible with Famicom games via converter. Of course doing that takes away the portability of the unit though.

The standup dock is meant to be used while using the handheld as a console and the screwdriver is meant to fix the loose cartridge problem...

First time seeing a review from you and at first I was actually a little put off because usually when I see videos filmed at the floor or table it puts me off but then I remembered I watch Classic Game Room and they do the same thing sometimes so I gave you a shot and I loved this review, very professional.

I have limited experience with her machine so I can't say for sure. I don't remember the sound offending me, but I also knew it would not sound like a real Super Nintendo or Genesis anyway. I'm sure I had adjusted my expectations. The RetroN 5 is sure to be quite different though. Newer hardware, HDMI output and it has updatable firmware. If I had to GUESS, it'll be adequate. I might get one myself to make streaming/video capture easier.

You need a 60-72 pin adapter then you'll be able to play Famicom games.

I have the retron 3 and besides the carts being hard to pull out and the controllers sucking its great. Luckily it has ports for all the original controllers

I have such a hard time deciding whether to get this or the Supa Boy! It's so hard :(

Neat little device, would you say that a 3DS virtual console download gives a better handheld experience for these older games though? provided the title is available of course, or would you prefer to play on that?

You can also play GBA with their adapter, and GB with the Super Game Boy (i tested it, it works) You can play Famicom games, but only with the proper adapter. I have no clue why you would think Famicom games would work! The NES uses 72 pins, the Famicom uses 60, completely different!

I like the fact you can play super famicom games I've never played any at all so that might make it worth getting

the rdp ver 2.0 can run sfx chip games, but the connector pins in the cartridge must be cleaned good. otherwise it wont run properly. i ve been watching a lot of reviews on this one portable and ive seen people play yoshi island and starfox 1 and 2 perfectly fine.
