Final Therapy Sessions are some of my favorites!!! But how do you know it’s time to move on from therapy??

The main thing is to check in on YOUR original goals for therapy. Don’t remember them? Ask you therapist to review your treatment plan together with you in session.

If you’ve achieved your original treatment goals, next it’s time to ask yourself if there’s anything else you need to feel ready to move on from therapy?

Thirdly, consider your comfort with how you will navigate new or expected challenges in the future with or without therapy.

And finally talk it over with your therapist. Tell them your hopes, and your fears, when it comes to therapy. They can help you come up with a plan that helps you feel ready for your next step and where therapy may or may not fit in with that plan for you.

Ultimately your therapist and you want the same thing- for you to reach your treatment goals. You won’t hurt our feelings and therapy is one of those weird places where we WANT to talk about the healthy ending of this therapeutic relationship.
