The Natovenator sounds like the terrifying new western doomsday attack robots that haunt Putin’s dreams.

The problem with such conclusion is that their relative, Halszkaraptor, which had very similar properties of Natovenator, was also claimed to be semi-aquatic and capable of diving, but these claims were challenged over the years, mainly because both Halszkaraptor and Natovenator were found in a semiarid environment (meaning water is hard to come by) and the fact that Halszkaraptor had low bone density, a feature unlike those found in diving birds. So chances are, they don’t have a diving lifestyle, but until further research we aren’t certain

Imagine being a fish and you tell your buddies that you’re glad that you swim too low for those long armed dinosaurs to reach you and you start making fun of those silly land animals when suddenly one just swims down and gets you mid-chuckle.

I keep trying to say Natovenator in my head and my brain automatically does it in Dr. Doofenshmirtz's voice. 😂

I must admit, I'm loving the idea of the penguin dinosaurs! It combines two of my favourite things! ❤

OT: This is off topic, but while we are at diving birds, it would be really important if somebody mentions one of the main characteristics of plunge diving birds, which is, interestingly, also one of the main characteristics of humans (somebody mentioned convergent evolution), crying. We both shed tears. Only, they are shedding it through their beaks, not through their eyes.

They missed such an opportunity to call it a divosaur

I read it as, "driving dinosaur." and I clicked.

It is more likely that diving dinosaurs first got flight than running and climbing dinos.

It is simple : Claws are better than wings for climbing and feathers of non-flying dinosaurs tend to not be stiff enough. And the driver towards flight is missing : small increments don't influence survival.

Swimming dinos that use the forelimbs for swimming have a strong driver. Every millimeter increase yields a better chance of survival. Swimming and flying uses the same movements of the forelimbs. So it is most likely that during panicked escapes, the dinos eventually started flying.

I wonder if it used its raptor foot claw underwater. OTOH it's still a topic of debate what dromeosaurs in general used those hook claws for.
