I think it's important to work a fast food or warehouse job. It teaches you that you can't be doing that your whole life and you gotta work hard to something greater

Working in fast food is definitely character development

We must take some time to respect the fast food workers for waking up 4:30 in the morning to deal with Karens for $14 an hour in this economy. They are the true soldiers

This is exactly how it’s like. I used to work at a place called Cittle Laesars, and all the stories you described fit so perfectly. The longer you work, the more food you sneak. If someone is at all pleasant, they’re getting free breadsticks and dip. Giving the homies free food. The worst days of my life, but great learning experiences.

You're so right about not caring about being fired. My job was planning on not scheduling me for a week then firing me afterwards, so if I'm not on next schedule, I'm quitting immediately. No point in wasting another minute there when I've wasted years. On to the next job. Like how tf are employers gonna expect a 2 week notice if they're not even gonna notify me of my impending termination?

working fast food full time is def not for the weak. The thing is it wouldn’t be so bad if managers didn’t exist

Heyo, former fast-food employee that used to work for a certain clown here! Just came by to share my own personal story that happened right before I had enough and just outright quit for good. After I had worked for close to a full year, I finally decided that enough was enough and that I didn't want to put up with terrible customers and terrible management any longer and start looking for a better job. (Which yes, I did eventually find after a while.)

Although let me just quickly correct myself there. I actually really did like some my managers; a good 4/6 of them that I had overall from my time working there. And yes, the other co-workers who worked there were cool too, I didn't have any problems with them at all. But lemme just tell you right now that there was one manager that I did not like. I'll call her Kelly. So before she became a manager and was just a regular employee like me, she was lovely. She was kind, funny, and even stood up for me, like this one time when a customer all of a sudden started threatening me to fight me or something and kept saying "I'm from Chicago" like I gave any fucks about where he originated from all because I had apparently given him attitude at some point, even though I had just talked to him normally, charged him for his order, and he left with a smile on his face like nothing happened. But, the minute she went thru training to become a manger for the building, its like she changed. Her temper and attitude was horrific. You would be lucky to go one whole shift without her raising her voice or starting fights with employees or customers. Yes, a few scenarios were justified like the time one of the cooks couldn't handle the pressure from the massive amount of food coming through and her trying to get food out fast, so he just clocked out on the spot and told her "You can't do shit" and whatnot, but other times she did it without reason, like giving a customer attitude for absolutely no reason when he was just asking for something.

Anyway, as for the main reason I'm even telling this story. It was the late hours of Saturday, the 18th of June, and I had already clocked out for the day and decided to quickly order some food before I took a Lyft back home. But after a while of waiting, I decided to just go in and fetch the food myself as to not disrupt the crew that was still working. But when I was grabbing my items and putting them into my bag, Kelly was standing there waiting for stuff too, and all of a sudden went on a tangent to me that "I was just sitting there doing nothing when I could still be here working", even though I already completed my 1-9 PM shift for the day and just wanted to sit down and relax for a bit before I went home. That's when she said these words to me: "If you're not out of here by 10, I'm calling (insert main manager name here) and telling her to give you more hours."

Imagine how fucking flabbergasted I was to hear something like that come out of her mouth. I don't know if she truly meant what she said or not, maybe it was just because stress was getting to her or something, but I didn't care and I pretty much had it with her. I had already done my long hours, and put up with so much shit already, so what I do with my time AFTER my work shouldn't even be of her concern anymore. After that, I immediately left for home and talked with family about what had happened. We all agreed that this, along with he fact that I already was feeling less and less happy to keep working here, was a good enough reason to officially call it quits. So when the next morning came, I had called the building 2 hours before I was scheduled to show up for the day, explained the situation to one of the other managers that was working there at that time, and we both agreed that it was for the best that this was for the best, since even he knew about her tendencies for outbursts. Soon after that day, I had finally came in to collect my final paycheck and to turn in my uniforms, and I haven't stepped foot into that place since. As much as I would love to see the people there again, I definitely did not want to came face-to-face with her again.

Although, I had recently had a run in with 2 of my former co-workers after I had just left my new job (which yes, is a MUCH better experience for me so far and I actually wake up looking forward to working there!), and they told me that nothing has changed and that she's still working there even after I had left. I was hoping that me quitting because of her would do something, maybe give her a warning to change her act or fire her or something, but I guess not.

Moral of the story is: fast food fucking sucks, so be warned and be ready if you do plan on applying to one! But who knows, maybe I just had a bad experience, and you might have a better one than me. That's the best I can hope for future fast-food employees out there. Good luck, fella's!

Funny thing is he’s right about being there for a while. You care a lot less about getting fired but at the same time management will do anything/ even more to keep you there

Fast food was my first job too. I worked at an Arby's when as 14 and got employed about halfway through summer. I'm an introvert and thought "How bad could it be?" after all my brother was working fast food too. Well, that was the worst month and a half of my life up until that point. At the Arby's I worked at, lines were always long, and it took forever to fulfil an order (~8 minutes, yikes!). It was like this from about an hour after opening all the way to closing. There was a very odd time of day at 3pm to 4pm where the line slows down. One time, NOBODY came into the store or went through the drive-through. This was the highlight of my employment for the month and a half I worked there. About three weeks before school started, I was getting anxiety about school because this was going to be my freshman year of high school and I feel a lot of pressure from my family to do well (I get straight A's). I was losing sleep, getting sleep paralysis, and having anxiety about going to work. I HATED my job and just wanted to sleep at night without waking up and being stuck in sleep paralysis. I put in my two weeks and got out a few days before school started. Thank god I quit because freshman year of high school was the most awkward, nerve-racking year of school for me (looking back I think I was also depressed, but a teacher helped me with that and gave me a new outlook on life using his class which was literally designed to make a student's life better and easier). I think if I didn't quit, I would've had a break down from all the anxiety I was experiencing.

Yep. Fast food work is all I could get while I was in highschool cuz lack of experience, no car etc. But I PROMISE you I'll never do it again. I'll scrub sewers with a toothbrush before I do that line of work again. Definitely builds character.

Huge respect to people who put up with jobs like these. Especially if they don't care and give free shit when management doesn't see.

Drive through part so accurate, most of the time it’s the same basic thing “Cost, payment, have a good day” but eventually you may have a random event npc that’s either interesting or the most annoying person you’ll ever meet.
