Did you know the moonstone boat actually sailed through the beach of Dunkirk?
The scene where the shivering soldier is floating on the broken hull of a ship was filmed in real time. The hull was built and placed in the ocean. Cillian Murphy had to jump from the hull into the ocean and swim to get to the Moonstone, which was a small yacht from 1930. He did this in May when the water was still cold, so part of his shivering was from him being cold. The other aspect of shivering came from his extensive study of PTSD in WWII, which Christopher Nolan encouraged him to do.
