Those are called Anti-theft Box Wraps or Spider Wraps. I can't find a diagram online but It looks like the spring is a sort of clock spring that moves a magnet back and forth inside the coil, generating electricity for the little LED. And there must be a piezoelectric speaker in there if it makes noise.

Seems like a bad security tag since it didn't make a sound or spray ink while he was demolishing it, lol

Is there a GPS in the spider security tag?

Why not try opening the devise without destroying it? Such a waste.

Looks like a fake to me. Probably a cheaper more economical version that's just to deter booster's from walking out the door with an item. I have studied these things inside and out at one point or another in my life and first thing that thing should have started beeping loudly at 96 decibels if the wires were cut, that one didn't do nothing! You can pull on the cables and slip them off around the box all you want and nothing will happen but as soon as the circuit is broken, (cut wire) it alarms. I have also exposed the wire in 2 sections already with a utility blade and have a 6" piece of wire on you with alligator clips on each end and connect to stripped areas of the wire then you are free to cut in between the clips because you are tricking the device to think it still has a full circuit which then gives you enough slack to slip the device off the package silently, no audible alarm, then stash it somewhere (under clothes, behind shelving, ) and head to the closest register to pay for said package. I can have all the ones that have the separate clip that goes in and out to engage and disengage onto the product off in under 10 seconds with 2 neodymium magnets epoxied to a popsicle stick concealed in my hand, it's child's play. There just there to keep honest people honest really. Any of them can be slid off 99% of the time as well. It's just like a puzzle and you need to keep calm and slip it a little this way and a little that way and eventually poof it's off. Shit, I've wrapped whole packages in heavy duty foil, also from same store, lol, and concealed the item in my bag and walked right thru the front door with no alarms going off as the foil blocks the radio frequencies used to set them off. I don't condone this as I was a drug addict for years and have since got my shit together and thank the good Lord I'm alive still with no need to remove these devices in store, when you pay for the shit the employees remove it free of charge! Who knew.
