In 2006, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) redefined the criteria for planet classification, resulting in Pluto's controversial demotion from planet status. The primary reason: Pluto's inability to clear its orbit. But is this decision truly fair? Dive into the heated debate sparked by recent discoveries from NASA's New Horizons mission, which have reignited discussions about Pluto's place in our solar system. Join us as we explore the history, the science, and the passionate arguments for and against Pluto's classification.

it's round, it has "moons" orbiting it. sounds like a planet to me, even if Pluto is small.

Who are the IAU to mess with the definition of a planet? It's all so arbitrary, AND well established, that it could have been left as it was. IMO, they tinkerer with the definition as a vanity project - something that they can say they did that impacted the astronomy community. It's pathetic. Why don't they contribute more meaningfully by debunking bad science, discovering new stuff, or refining existing formulae that appear to need fine tuning.
