I know it’s silly, but when the pictures were first released I cried a little. I’ve always loved Pluto. I was alive when it was considered a planet. I was 11 when it was demoted. The sheer amount of work and luck that went into getting those pictures, and I was lucky enough to get to see it.

On February 18, 1930, Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto. The Goal of the skilled Astronomer had one wish...to still be alive when we finally sent a space craft to it to see it up close. He died at age 90 in 1997. (He just missed it.) So his wife got permission from NASA to put his ashes ON BOARD the craft.(True) He actually got to be part of the flyby mission. He has been on the craft, flying with it forever. (Cool huh?)

I’m 51, so Pluto was a planet for a lot more years of my life than it was an “exiled planet” (I like that term). To me, it will ALWAYS be a planet. I watched with eagerness, waiting for them to put up those first images of Pluto on my tv screen. And when they did, I teared up a little… It was so beautiful! This little planet that would forever be our ninth planet in my eyes, the world I thought we’d never get to see or know in my lifetime and there it was! And it had a big beautiful heart! ❤ I never saw anything like it and I was in awe… How could they think this wasn’t a planet?! I decided then that NASA was stupid, Pluto was a planet and that settled the matter. They’ll never change my mind 😊
