Some users are facing the issue in regards to Firefox and chromium browser is not working.. If anyone is facing this problem try this thing it may resolve the issue.


First things first, logout from Ubuntu VM, then tap on the username and you will see a password text field. Now look for the Settings gear icon at the bottom right, choose ubuntu XORG, and sign in with your password. Now try opening Firefox or chromium browser, it should work..


If the issue still persist, open terminal
Type sudo apt purge snapd

then reboot the VM,

again sign in back, make sure you are running ubuntu with XORG Not wayland,
reopen terminal type
sudo apt install Firefox,

hope it works.

I love this video. It's simple and packed with answers. I didn't need to download UTM. I just needed the ARM architecture of Ubuntu. I have the same set up generally speaking and Virtual Machine works perfect on M1. Plus UTM doesn't allow other hard drives/SSDs to be used to store the VM data. I needed that extra storage because having 3 VMs is too much on a device with 256GBs Imo. Especially when it'll be your personal device. Using an external SSD on Oracale Virtual Machine is a blessing in disguise.

This is the best video I have seen so far, very clear and easy to follow. However, once I get into Ubuntu the desktop appears and everything but nothing works. When I click on anything to run it nothing happens, or the name of the application appears in the menu bar but no window on the screen. An as another user said, the Ubuntu installer just comes up with a black screen and again nothing happens. In Virtualbox I can’t even get as far as installing it at all let alone getting as far as the desktop. Not sure what to do now, looks like virtualisation is not for me.

This worked great, thank you. I did have problems with the sound, but a change in the settings for the sound source fixed it. For people that are going to try this, follow all the steps listed. Miss one, and you can have issues. One thing I did notice, is a pretty high power draw when running the VM. Not enough to warm up the MacBook, but definitely would cut battery life by a significant amount, should you be running on the battery.
