That many motherboards could be a blessing for consumers, if presented neatly by the manufacturer. What I mean? Well, make a configurator or something, like buying an iphone, you chose storage and color, there are many combinations and variants but still the same phone, so that should be the case here as I think it will help and actually let consumers chose a mobo that's perfectly right for them. If someone doesn't need 10 gigabit but needs everything else top notch, he can have that, and that's amazing. Mobos are confusing but that can be fixed, and I think it is easy.

Felt the same when hunting for X570 / B550s, too much boards with much consideration!

And then, we are gonna find that vrm on 70% of those boards are garbage and 15% are Ok, and 15% is a good choice to buy them! Btw ansious to see the prices that a 10900k is gonna be in a couple of months and the z490 a z590!

Should be 3 models of boards. Budget, mid range and high range. Imagine if gpus had 23 models for each segment of cards

Irony - Builzoid had a rant recently about this with x570 - not "one" single board does everything, so then it's a game of trying to estimate current and future needs. Same thing when you call to refinance your house: The people that ask for a 15 - 20 - 25 - 30 year clearly don't' know what they want and what their goals are, and you'll BURN 45+ minutes with them, only for them to tell you: "oh... well let me think about it..." MB manufacturers should just stick to the Good, Better, Best/Bragging rights as 3 options.

I agree there's too much choice - I have an all Aorus Z390 build even then it was a what???? I like Aorus but I am getting put off from too much choice! Its normally the difference between a VRM or two.

DDR5 will make a difference in time, but the speeds we will be given at release.... very likely will be the same performance as good performing DDR4.

I can't believe you haven't corrected the improper pronunciation of the wife saying Zed. lol Although I've been around it enough now whenever I hear Zed it makes me wonder if it's really "Z" or "Zed" Zed690 or Z690. Can be so confusing for those unaware.

why did they name z690 boards with ddr4 and ddr5? i dont like that. they could have named the ddr4 boards z580, 570, ect. something different.

I guess there's usb-c front panel, 1gb/2.5gb lan, dual lan, wifi, water block, color schemes... It is too much segmentation, but in fairness it seems no different than usual. Just the ddr4 makes it look like more.

The HEDT platform haswell-e had ddr4 before skylake.

has anyone gone from a i5-9400f to a Ryzen 5800x? or 2060 to 3080? planning my next build and want to see if anyone has done similar upgrades and how they feel.

I have alway's found with new tech launch's are never really ground breaking till the companies send out patches later on down the road. Even last week AMD sent out new chipset drivers for previous to todays latest and greatest cpu's.
