Using 3D to create foam patterns! #cosplay #diycrafts

New costume announcement! We're creating the Voice of the Court for @GothamKnights

Super busy working on our Gotham Knights mask! Warner Bros gave us a gorgeous model for reference, but since I want to create the final piece out of foam, Benni had to make some patterns! He’s using Blender and a technique called Retopology to build a simplified model and then unwraps it to get the paper patterns. Pretty smart right? 😁 Next up: glueing this puzzle together!

This video is a paid ad with WBGames.

you missed the fact that blender has two tools specifically for this, the polybuild tool for remeshing like that, and there is an add on that automatically creates a pattern for printing

This is exactly what I'm working toward. It's just a matter off learning enough blender

Here’s a retopology tip! There exists a ton of add-ones available to make the process faster and less painful, especially for larger projects! Blender market is a good source, and my favorite is speedretopo and retopoflow

go into add ons and enable "f2 mesh" part way into the video you selected 4 verts and filled them. with f2 enabled you can select 1 vert hit F and it will form a quad using the two adjacent verts. I find it helps with modeling workflow a lot. it also works for 2 verts if you have a row of empty faces to fill.

I'll have to try this out later (it might even work if you use modifiers to reduce polygons and use the export paper model feature, maybe not for higher detail parts tho)

There is a program for PC called
Pepakura Designer, where you can import any 3D image file in .OBJ formaro and convert it to print on paper and assemble or use as a template for another type of assembly.

Unwrapping isnt always accurate, use the paper addon!!

We have TWO VERY different versions of fun, I despise making 3d models, HOWEVER, I love watching them.

Uv map can be weird shape. You can apply a addon that makes complete paper cutouts with flaps and all.

So clean modeling for cosplay/pepakura

Why the heck are the X and Z in the wrong place and the rest in their normal spot?!!

Unwrapping is not 100% proportional. I would suggest using some Papercraft addon for blender or exporting the 3D file to some software like Pepakura
