Before Jomez there was Spin tv. Jomez took it to another level but Spin tv was the first to do round coverage so they deserve a lot of respect for what they contributed.

UDisc surely deserves the credit you ascribe to it. Disc Golf Course Review should be acknowledged as an important online predecessor to the more mobile-friendly UDisc app. DGCR was doing much earlier what UDisc is doing now.

Disc golf has become such a big part of my life, i threw my first disc om March 6th last year. Now, not even a year later I am working on getting the first 18 holes course with a double layout installed in my county. I wish I could go out every day and throw a couple of rounds.

Great video! I've played disc golf for a long time (25+ years). My dad introduced me via casual target golf in the park with lids, to purchasing my first driver in the early 2000s (a Cheetah), to learning how to actually throw drivers properly years later with the arrival of youtube, to now, with stacks and stacks of discs and accompanying gear. Disc golf is the most persistent hobby in my life. I introduced my wife to the sport and she loves it just as much. My kids aren't sold entirely yet, but they're still young. Anyway, this video makes me so happy to see how far the sport has come, and the legitimacy it's gained. I can't wait to see how far it expands, and all the amazing memories it will facilitate.

Great video. I agree with all of these! I would have also considered the introduction of Prodigy Disc and the formation of the first paid disc golf team. It completely uprooted the business side of the sport. The manufacturers had to reconsider how they would fairly compensate their athletes for fear of their players leaving for another company. This eventually led to Innova introducing the tour series line which is now copied by just about every major manufacturer.

back in 2004 my family went to a gas station and bought some DX sharks and tried disc golf. I was 11. It was SO BORING! I remember thinking wow go for a walk in the park and toss a stupid frisbee 50-100ft and drop it in the basket. Organized sports were my life and frisbees were for hippies. I think all I needed was to see somebody toss my disc 300 ft and it would've changed my perspective. I ended up picking it up after high school and its been my passion for ten years now.

The DX was built different back then. I regret not being able to preserve the disc.

Jomez is probably the reason I play disc golf again after a 21 year hiatus. YouTube videos got me interested again and I watched a bunch for a year before I bought myself and my dad a starter set for Christmas

The pandemic is what got myself and my fiancé into disc golf. Bought a couple of used discs then got hooked from there. Shared the sport with friends and family and got them into it as well. Pretty cool to see some of the history behind it.

Hansen Park in New Brighton, MN put in a course with cone baskets in ‘79. Still a course today with 10 cone baskets. Used to ride my bike there and play with a whamo. Good old 141 gram.

This is a great video. Please indulge me with what I think you glossed over that is the MOST SIGNIFICANT…..It was Tom Monroe (PDGA #33) and Lavone Wolfe (PDGA #580) that turned the power over to the players and it was because of them that we throw beveled edged discs. They deserve mention…or at least for you to reach out and say thank you. I have their numbers if you need them.

the Philo Albatross should have at least been a honorable mention with the Holy Shot

My 90s bag was almost 100% Millenium. In those days if you had the LS, LF, Innova Cobra, and Omega putter, you had a lock on every shot in the game.

Interesting segment. Thankyou. For me, a big take away from the many insightful points mentioned had to be, "...It takes the money of the everyday disc golfer to keep the sport going." Renewing my membership and perfecting the lost art of championship level missed putts makes me a key cog in how this all blossomed into greatness. Uhhhh, you're welcome. I'll be getting bogeys all week. Try the veal.

Don't forget about disc golf monthly and Carl Cubbage! When I got into disc golf around 2009 we would always watch disc golf monthly and the discraft pro clinics! Good stuff

Denying the grip CCDG had (and the template they popularized for post-production) in favor of Jomez is a bit silly. If not for Ian and co and their interactions on the r/discgolf subreddit, post-produced coverage would've been stuck until DPGT tried to do it themselves (poorly).

I remember when I started in elementary/middle school I was like 11-12 yrs old and was hooked instantly. That was about 2011-2012. 10 years later with few years of not playing I immediately saw a big difference when I started playing again. Way more people coming out and better YouTube content being the most prominent

I started playing 9 years ago and thought I had experienced the beginning of it. Wow!

I bought my first starter pack because I heard retail stores were closing in a couple days due to the pandemic. I had been watching jomez already and it really was the push I needed. Biggest positive to come from covid

Have gripped & ripped disc since early 90’s. Met Scott Stokely at 40th DGLO. Told him he is my hero. He said “you must be old” 😂. I replied older than you.

Loved this video! Been obsessed with watching Jomez lately after playing a few times with some friends a couple years ago. Itching to get out there and improve my game. Learning the history of the sport makes it all much more impactful. Thanks for sharing!
