Why was Moses not allowed to enter the Promised Land? According to the story of Moses in the Bible, why didn’t God allow Moses to enter the Promised Land? Was it because of the fact that Moses strikes the rock twice as Moses is leading the Israelites? Or is there more to this Moses bible story? In this video, Pastor Nelson with Bible Munch uses the Bible to answer those questions and more.

I'm so blessed by this video and the answers it gave. As I'm sitting here now typing this I am in TOTAL FEAR OF GOD. I'M VERY MUCH AFRAID. I KNOW I SOMETIMES FALL SHORT BECAUSE OF PRIDE AND GIVING IN TO THE SINS OF THE FLESH BUT AFTER HEARING THIS WITH HELP FROM JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD AND SAVIOR I CAN CHANGE. FATHER GOD I'M IN AWE OF YOU. I'M AFRAID OF YOUR WRATH PLEASE HELP ME TO OBEY YOU AND WORSHIP YOU AND GIVE YOU ALL THE HONOR GLORY AND PRAISE!

If I was Moses - I'd rather go to be with God in Heaven than enter the Promise Land. I think what God did for Moses by taking him home to Heaven was fair after everything he had done for the Israelites 🙏

I see many parallels between this story, Plato's Cave, Flowers for Algernon, A Few Good Men, and so many other tales; first there is misunderstanding and blissful ignorance. Then comes awareness and rising to meet its demands (embracing responsibility), then a fall where this new awareness brings pain, methods of leading others that are borderline deceitful and manipulative, and then the knowledge that one in such a position never gets to enjoy the blissful ignorance of being in the dark and not having responsibility because of these new burdens of leadership. Moses slipped and is a warning to us that taking on the role of God will lead only to a fall and keep us from reaching peace. The trouble lies in serving and being humble while also having to be a leader of men. It's as easy as assuming we knew what to do because we've done it before, and not considering that times have changed, and so to must our methods of leading.

Moses publicly took credit for something God did. God requires that you publicly give him the glory for every blessing and miracle he gives you. Refusal to do this will have punishments.

Striking a rock when you are supposed to tell the rock to bring forth water is liking slamming your car into a gas station to get gas into the tank.

He missed the most powerful part of this story... Moses, the man whom the very law of Moses is named after, was not perfect enough to earn his salvation (symbolized by entering the "promised land") While the text described him as a prophet like no other, who spoke directly with God, Moses still was not perfect. However, Joseph had faith to enter the promised land and take what God had promised to give. He trusted in God to give to the Israelites what they could not achieve or earn on their own. Joshua in Hebrew is Yeshua, the same name as Jesus! Joshua represents Jesus, leading us by faith, through the Jordan river (where Jesus would later be baptized) and into the promised land (symbolic of the Kingdom of Heaven). This is perhaps the most powerful object lesson for the Jew, Muslim, Hindu and legalistic Christian (like I used to be), showing us we can't rely on our own righteousness and perfect law keeping, we must have faith & trust in Jesus to save us.

I don’t understand, how can it be a misrepresentation of Christ’s sacrifice when he wasn’t even born until another 1000 years or so after Moses.

Thanks for explaining this! The way this part was told to me was that God ordered Moses to "hit the rock", and Moses hitting it twice was presented as being impatient. I started thinking Moses might have struck it a second time because he had doubts about whether he did it right.

I still think God is quite cruel, but at least I'll stop using this as an example

I feel my chances aren't so great if Moses can't even get into the promised land. Am I to use my belief in Jesus as a get out of jail free card? Am I doomed for even asking the question? This religion is tough, and the instruction manual is huge and confusing.

Check out Deuteronomy 3:27. If to your north is the Promised Land, and to your south is the Promised Land, and to your east is the Promised Land, and to your west is the Promised Land, guess what, you're in the Promised Land. God, in His grace, allowed Moses to enter the Promised Land after all, but didn't allow Moses to lead the people of Israel to possess it.

If Moses did a grave sin by not following God's instruction & was not allowed to enter the promised land, do you think Moses was also not allowed to enter heaven ?.

According to your translation, God says "YOU will will bring water out of the rock..." So Moses(peace be upon him) doesn't necesseraly try to take credit for it by saying "WE". But according to your translation Moses(peace be upon him) didn't honor him enough IN THE SIGHT of Israelites. I think it's because, even if Moses IN HIS SIGHT know that if he were able to bring water by striking with the staff using his strength, that's take to God. But the Israelites didn't understand God enough so they may think that it's because of the strength of Moses. But if he had only spoke to the rock, it would be clear IN THEIR SIGHT that's it's God who made the miracle. If Moses(peace be upon him) attributed to himself the miracle of God, that would be a way more serious problem, it would be a sort of idolatry. God say that Moses(peace be upon him) didn't honor him enough but didn't say that Moses(peace be upon him) tried intentionaly to steal God honor. A reccurent theme in the story of Moses, from start(killing of Egyptian), middle(breaking the tablets) to end(what you are saying) is that his hands did actions that ended in situations that were not intended and that his heart disliked.
