Copper Mai has an AEB-L core which has pretty good performance - very common in custom knives.
The copper is in the jacket.

The copper won't effect edge retention, it's just a laminate over the cutting core. but it will or shall I say CAN cause you some serious issues. After a sharpening or two and your cutting in to the copper if the forging isn't done very well you can easily get de- lamination and have the copper separating from the other jacket steel.

Wish they would just use the copper like a hamon situation where something softer on the spine isnt so bad.

Yea I'm pretty sure that copper is part of a laminate. Otherwise it would be really stupid.

Back not too long ago, Damascus was not the "desirable blade"! or infused metals... Still cool, so many can't use them all.!

Lol somebody was asking me about using them as a prybar. Oh won’t the copper make it super brittle and it’ll break and I just responded. Well maybe don’t use your knife as a prybar then.

Also how thick is the copper looks cosmetic fancy finish more than in the actual blade steel
