NB: The best spark plug for your car is the one recommended in your owners manual. This is just a demo. A lot goes into the choice of spark plugs, it's not just about spark. Engine design plays a major role. Copper spark plugs are best for some engines, while iridium is best for others. 🙏🏼

I don't care about the plugs but the tester is mint 👌

I think a more appropriate title for this video is, "Did you know they made spark plug testers?" LOL
Very cool.

The biggest difference is the surface area. The first reason the iridum is much smaller is because this metal is very rare and it's heat resistance is much higher than copper. So a copper tip must be bigger to last as long.

Of course, if you use less surface the arc obviously become more "precise"

That's cool. They both make a spark.

These both have different electrode sizes, different spark plug gaps, and are different brands. I dont know if a side by side comparison is really indicative of the performance of the material

Cool I'll stick with the NGK been using them forever and they work great for me

I always use Denso iridium TT(twin tip). I never had problem. This allows for an extended lifespan of up to 120, 000 km – more than three times that of a standard nickel plug.

Probably why the gap is so much wider on the newer plugs is to create a larger spark for ignition. The iridium can take the heat and erosion much better than copper but costs way more.

Ngk the way to the bank, it’s not about precision, it’s about how broad the ignition can be to react with the fuel, bigger ignition = more fuel burn efficiency . That’s why ngk are world leaders in spark plugs

Use what the manufacturer recommends for your Year Make & Engine..That's what works Best👍

The actual spark energy doesn't change much. The copper is more conductive actually.... while iridium and platinum have a much higher melting point and erode much more slowly, which is required for the finer tips. The smaller area of the finer tip provides better resistance to fouling. The higher temperature and harder platinum and iridium, in particular double iridium and double platinum are for twin post coils, where one operates in normal polarity, the reverse polarity side usually rapidly erodes the electrode and ground strap, the double platinum and double iridium hold up much better here.

As an amateur electrician the element metal has nothing to do with how precise the arcs are, it has to do with the tip of the contacts but what ever

Copper has always been stronger but I have to swap out frequently which is also a good thing to not let rust build up and to take a peek at the cylinders

Not sure what was the point but I have replaced NGK's with double cheaper Denso's plugs in my Fiat and the results are great! It has bin so about 2-3 years. I will go for Denso in future as well

there is a bigger spark pattern on the copper igniting the fuel mixture sooner probably. the only reason to use iridium is it lasts longer. i wonder if you had multiple parallel circuits internal to a spark plug that could fire multiple electrodes at the same time, if that would produce better power.

It does not matter precise or not, most important things it has sparks, it has blue sparks, the rest depends on the durabilty of the tip, paladium, iridium last longer compare to copper. Copper got less mileage, the tip get shorter faster compare to paladium or iridium.
