In this animated feature, a deadly diphtheria epidemic strikes the remote town of Nome, Alaska. With the life-saving medicine located hundreds of miles away, the residents decide to send out a sled-dog team. Balto (Kevin Bacon) -- a half-wolf dog ignored by all except a goose, Boris (Bob Hoskins), two polar bears -- and beautiful husky Jenna (Bridget Fonda) is chosen to run but is disqualified by lead dog Steele (Jim Cummings). Balto being half wolf 🐺 would be a great boost to the team. Wolves can cover more ground than regular dogs and there larger paws give them better traction in the snow

the thing i like about steele's character the most is how at the beginning he just seems like nothing more than the typical picky douche, but later on in the film he proves himself to be an actual threat

Steel’s teeth is way sharper than Balto’s so I don’t understand why they would trust him.

Steele is kinda cute when he’s just being a dog...like when he yapped like a puppy when his owner walked up and jumped up all excited...that was cute..

1:35 1) Love all the detail they put into Steele's movements 2) Love how he did that little neck twitch, showing that he was starting to lose it.

At the start of the movie, every interaction between Steele and Balto: Steele was controlling the interaction. Balto always left upset and Steele left with the upper hand. However, as the film progresses, we begin to see Balto start to turn the tables.

Steele starts to lose it as he realizes Balto is catching up to him both physically and socially. He's starting to threaten his record as the lead dog and he's already stealing Jenna's attention (The one and only thing HE could never aquire).

That neck twitch was him really showing "This guy's starting to get on my last nerve". Setting up his slow descent until he eventually snapped.

2:05 i love that little sound effect when Steele says "Back"

I love how Steele says "You were the fastest... what?" He is initially shocked that the discovery, but he collects himself and twists it into an insult by making the "what" sound more mean instead of stunned. He does this in an attempt to undermine Balto's success... and to add salt to the "injury" Balto sees his wolf heritage as, because none of the other dogs saw him as a "true dog."
The little details in this movie are amazing, man...

Despite the odds and unfairness, you could tell that Balto was both pumped and warmed up for the race and ready to win it. It's a really big shame that his hopes of helping the team was just thrown away because of Steele's actions. How did no one ever see that?
