You don't choose your genetics, your parents, your formative experiences, your school, your neighborhood. It's all one big domino effect

I was a high af 9th grade dropout. Teachers hated me. Parents were drunk at the bar everyday. Worked taco bell in rural Ohio till i was 25 when i had a mental breakdown.
Quit my job, found a factory job that wasnt much better. Got laid off. Then an IT company started in a little town by me so i went to the open house. They showed me how to apply for grant money to go to an accelerated 15 week database & programming course.
10 years later im a software architect for the biggest IT company in the world. Im doing genai system designs for a number of clients. I am literally working with people that helped create the foundation that chatgpt was built on.
A little bit of federal money and i became who i was supposed to be.

That last point is the main point to me. A kid that could be a really good engineer or whatever that could help everyone. We should do anything to get them there. It helps us all. We probably would have solved a lot of our problems by now if we actually had the best people leading us through

i have to agree. I’ve met so many smart people in low labor jobs. And i mean smart. And they always gave me the same answer: i just couldn’t afford it. America has so many talented people but none of them are given the chance

My brother got a scholarship and was eventually able to graduate from an Ivy League school and find a great career. Despite his intellect, he would have never been where he is without help. Help is necessary for the success of so many.

Why is it so difficult for so many people in the comments to comprehend that you can acknowledge various inequalities and lack of opportunities between people and still promote hard work? Working hard is great and it serves you even better if you know your place in life so you can do your best to overcome that while helping others who are going through similar circumstances so less people are tasked to face troublesome obstacles. This approach facilitates success for future generations which affords more opportunities for many.

Anybody who didn’t grow up in the hood with drug addict parents and a terrible school in a poor city will never truly understand what it’s like. I have so much trauma from my childhood that most people can’t even begin to wrap their mind around because I was so fucking poor. Things that were normal to me but to them seem insane. It’s nice to see people like this guy trying to educate others and help them understand.

Man, I really felt that. He’s 100% dead on with this.

He’s right. There’s things we cannot control. The most we can do is use the opportunities around us to do great! We should never give up!!!

The type of parents you have is probably the biggest and most important thing a person can be lucky to have. We grew up as low class immigrants but my parents made it their mission and bisted theor asses for us to have much better lives than they had. And even though they we were Mexican, they instilled the Asian approach to discipline when it came to school. And it worked out for me and my brothers. I consider myself privilieged to have been lucky to have parents like them. Meanwhile i see the parents, or lack of, of other kids from my neighborhood, and no wonder we turned out better than them. Having great parents is the most important privilege one can have in my opinion. Not race, not sex/gender. In my opinion it is more improtant than money, cause it also helps shape you as a person later in life. Obviously both moeny and great parents is the ultimate privilege combo

what destiny’s saying here is that hard work doesn’t guarantee success. And with the society that we live in, it SHOULD be true that hard work will equal success, that should be non-negotiable. But unfortunately those up top have effed up. Society now reflects nature’s misfortune accurately. Regardless, keep trying.

How are so many missing the point here? He's not saying you can't "pull yourself up from you bootstraps". He's saying that luck and the circumstances you're born into are a big deal. There are smart and hardworking people that never make it because of their circumstances and bad luck. If we had systems and institutions in place to help these people we could make sure that more people live up to their full potential and lead a better life. Hard work is obviously important, but I don't see why thay couldn't be complemented by outside help too.

Being born in the US is one such privilege a lot of people do not appreciate. Saying this as an immigrant, the opportunities here are so much.

Finally some rich guy who isn’t saying “IF I CAN MAKE IT WHY CANT YOU” when he was probably living in some nice mansion, going to a private school and was given money by the family to start a business that they helped him with

I love the message but still hate how he even entertained the idea of hanging out with someone like Nick Fuentes

I’m conservative, and I agree with these points.

I fucking miss moderation. Everything is from one extreme to other. Shit is nuts. This is not how change management works, and we wonder why society is going crazy. Unfortunately, democracy can be short sighted.

Everything in moderation..
