Why didn't you replace the gasket that sits between the pipe and the tub before threading the new drain in?

Thank you for this. One question though.
Should I also put Teflon tape in between the threads of the drain and the spacer too. I’m thinking this would need to be sealed as well as the outer threads on the spacer.

Pipe dope should have been used on the drain threads before you attached the plastic bushing.

Help...my 1952 drain won't budge...no cross member...just a bar with a screw hole...

i hate to say it, but I used your method of using a needle nose pliers and a wrench, and it broke all the tines in the bottom of the drain. Now I am stuck with a drain that has a huge hole in the bottom of it. I put a kitchen drain that has a screen temporarily, but now I am in trouble.

The cross member is broken that you use to remove the old drain.  What's the recommendation to get the old drain out in this situation?
